Sonos responds to Sub Mini: “there are many products that we consider”

Last week, Sonos officially introduced the Sonos Ray, its most affordable soundbar yet. And if he's been waiting (wish and wish) for a new affordable subwoofer to go along with it, he's not alone. Sonos originally teased the idea of a Sub Mini last November, on its mobile app, and now, nearly six months later, the Sonos Sub Mini rumors are finally gaining momentum. But why has Sonos taken so long, and why does the company keep dragging its feet?

While the specific release date, pricing details, and even the official existence of the Sub Mini remain elusive, TechRadar was able to get a comment from Sonos' lead product designer Brandon Holley. Asked directly if there was a need to pair a smaller Sonos Sub with the Sonos Ray, Holley replied, "Nothing to announce," but added, "Obviously we're looking at a lot of products. You have a good point on that." note. Sub will sound great with Ray, and vice versa. But as for what is to come, nothing to announce."

Quick history lesson: The company's only other subwoofer, the Sonos Sub, launched nearly a decade ago in June 2012. It's now in its third iteration (first appearing on June 10, 2020) and replaces to the 2016 second generation, now discontinued. model.

As the only submarine in the Sonos catalogue, its €749 price tag dwarfs the second generation so much. Beam (€349) and the new Ray (€279), so obviously buyers looking for a price and size compatible partner to bring bass to their small home cinema systems are currently out of luck. .

But despite not announcing the Sub Mini last week, The Verge managed to confirm that Sonos is getting closer to it, and even created a render from an image shared by an anonymous source.

Analysis: what are we really seeing?

Sonos Sub Mini leak: oval hole, small footprint

The image shows a more jeweled and affordable Sonos subwoofer (which can undoubtedly pair wirelessly with the Arc, Ray and Beam) and confirms Sonos' November leak, which describes it as a "more pequeno".

The Sub Mini's biggest design feature, as with the original Sub, is an elongated vertical cutout in the middle of the device, but here it's shaped like a pill instead of the Sub's distinctive rectangular hole.

The original Sub is a heavy beast, weighing in at 16kg, and it has acoustic ports on both sides, as well as Sonos' proven push-push drivers (which fire on both sides of this hole), so there's a good chance the Sub Mini have a similar performance. entrails, although probably smaller and a little less powerful.

When can we expect to see him in the flesh? Sonos, as we've seen, isn't ready to say. But our guess would be the IFA tech fair as soon as possible, which isn't until the end of August...
