Smeg CJF01 Citrus Juicer Review

Smeg CJF01 Citrus Juicer Review

One minute review

Smeg is a household name that has been around for years and is one of our favorites. Drawing inspiration from their Italian heritage, they use vibrant colours, unique designs and innovative new materials to set themselves apart from the busy home appliance market and therefore other competitors to make the best juicer (opens in a new tab) on the market.

The Smeg CJF01 citrus juicer is no exception. With its retro 50s styling and beautiful pastel blue hue (also available in other colors), it looked very stylish on our kitchen counter.

Does exactly what is intended; press the citrus. It's also incredibly easy to set up with minimal assembly required, and it's obvious how to use it just by looking at the instructions and the device.

Smeg claims that it has a non-drip spout that makes it easy to dispense liquids cleanly. In addition to its design, the universal cone and strainer allows you to squeeze both large and small fruits.

At $199.95 / £139 / AU$206, this is what we consider to be an expensive item. Yes, it does what you need, but you can squeeze lemons much more affordably with something more manual, although it requires less effort with the Smeg CJF01 hand held citrus juicer.

Smeg CJF01 citrus press: price and availability

The Smeg CJF01 is priced at €199.95 / £139 / AU$206 and is widely available from dealers. You can't buy it directly from Smeg, but you can find out where you can buy it through their website. (opens in a new tab)

It is the only Smeg citrus juicer available in all regions. They also have the Smeg Slow Juicer (opens in a new tab) which is a more versatile option, it just doesn't give you any citrus.

Integrated

The Smeg CJF01 citrus juicer is a very nice device. If you already own one of the brand's '50s-style refrigerators, coffee makers or kettles, it will feel like a natural choice to add to your kitchen.

In Smeg's own words, this is a device 'made to show off', and it is. It has smooth, curved lines, plus everything you need to juice a variety of citrus fruits. It measures 1,86 x 7,8 x 6,2 inches / 29,5 x 20 x 16 cm (H x W x D), so it's also a stanced juicer, some may even say it's loose. There are no buttons, switches or dials to press or hold, which adds to the appeal, not to mention the ease of use.

All the work is done by the 70W motor with integrated on-off sensor that is activated by pressing the middle of the fruit until it dries. Juice drips from the drip spout, and while this channels liquid nicely, we found that it unfortunately leaks even after removing the bowl from below.

It comes with a removable lid to protect it when not in use (which can also be used as a container to hold your skin), and all components are removable for washing, making using the device from start to finish quick and easy.

Performance

Discover that the expressor of citrus Smeg CJF01 is very easy to mount, very easy to use and igualmente very easy to limpiar. We squeezed every variety of citrus we could find at our local greengrocer - grapefruit, orange, nadorcotts (a type of clementine), lemon and lime - and even a kiwi, where there was some logic behind it. decision.

The spout is not adjustable so we were pretty limited to the glass/container we could use. Fortunately, we had some of the same glasses that worked well for juicing any citrus fruit online, and for the purposes of this review. The height at the base of the spout is 120mm, so a container of this height is what you will need to comfortably drip the juice.

We start big with orange. We cut it in half (widthwise), place it meat side down in the juicer and apply a little pressure. The motor started and began to spin the cone of juice inside the orange half. It only took a few seconds for the juice to start flowing through the spout and into the glass.

Then we pressed some nadorcotts. The juice was fine, but the skin of this particular citrus fruit is not as thick or waxy as a lemon and it started to crumble in our hands. When he started to do so, I stopped squeezing him, the motor automatically shut off and I could see him quickly chomping down on the fleshy fruit.

The lemon and lime juice was efficiently extracted and the skins remained intact after all the juice had been extracted. The larger buds got caught in the sieve, but with the lime, in particular, the smaller buds found their way into the glass, so you'll (also) want to get a small sieve (opens in a new tab) to filter all you do not do I do not want in the juice.

Making grapefruit juice with the Smeg CJF01 was by far the easiest way to do it. Grapefruits are large and often have hard skins, so using a manual juicer (opens in a new tab) required a lot more effort (in this case) to extract the juice; We try to compare.

The juice cone quickly pierced through the pulp and a lot of fruit collected in the strainer, but the pips leaked out.

I decided to try juicing a kiwi, out of curiosity. The logic was that I could cut it in half easily and there were soft fruits that the juice cone could work its magic on. However, it is not recommended to squeeze a kiwi with a juicer. The skin is very thin and the pulp does not make juice; however, we thought it was a good experience.

Squeezing all the fruits we listed above, we measured a constant noise level of 54dB which, for context, is only slightly louder than moderate rain, so it's super quiet. This device won't be the morning wake-up call we all fear; it can be something completely different.

However, it's a good thing that it's widely available.3/5 Design Smooth lines, ease of assembly, and ease of use make it a very attractive device, but it's bulky.4.5/5 Yield Extracts citrus very well. Too bad little pips and pieces of fruit slipped into the glass.4.5/5
