Severance Season 2 is set to continue the story of Lumon Industries soon on Apple TV Plus. The next entry in the sci-fi thriller series will reveal more existential mysteries at play and the controversial medical procedure that leaves employees unable to remember their lives outside the office walls. Unsurprisingly, given how good the first season was, we can't wait to see what's to come in its second installment.

Season 2 is set to pick up from one of the best Season 1 cliffhangers in recent memory. Severance is a show that masterfully connects complex and conflicted characters in a dark office satire. This is a series that has grown in scope and ambition with each episode, like the endless corridors of Lumon's office growing longer, darker, and more unnerving than expected.

Severance may be the best Apple TV show yet (although your feelings about it may depend on whether or not Ted Lasso already has your heart). He is able to wrest laughter from painful corporate platitudes, while leading them to their most terrifying conclusions, as we watch dehumanized and psychologically tortured workers offered up on the altar of CEO worship.

But there's still a lot we don't know, including when Severance season 2 will arrive. With season two greenlit in April 2022 and filming already underway, we'll surely be hearing more soon. Here's everything we know about Severance season 2 so far.

The first season took about a year to complete and release on Apple TV Plus. Considering there's still six months left in principal photography and the show will require a lengthy post-production phase, we'll likely wait until late 2023 to see the next installment. Here's hoping that's the case.

Here's the full cast for Severance season 2 so far:

There were a lot of recurring and guest characters in the first season of Severance, so we could see some of those people return for their next outing. However, Apple has yet to confirm which of these might return, or if new actors have been hired to play new characters.

However, there will be eight new faces among the cast in season 2. According to The Hollywood Reporter (opens in new tab) (THR), this octet of big-name stars have joined Severance's roster in undisclosed roles:

Speaking with THR (opens in a new tab) for a Season 1 final postmortem, director-producer Ben Stiller previously suggested that he has a lot of actors in mind for potential roles in Season 2, saying: "For me , there's a lot, people love Christopher Guest, I figure 'Wow, that would be awesome if I could ever be on the show' It's fun when you have a show like this where you let people come in for maybe one episode or two, but also to fit into the world of Severance."

Creator Dan Erickson wants the cast of Severance to become celebrities in their own right, joking to THR that "if Barack Obama is , I'll see if he wants a role in this show. I think it would be really good, it would bring gravity." .

Major spoilers for Severance season 1 follow.

So what's going on in Severance? The show is set in Lumon Industries, a shady company that has found a way to split a person's psyche in two: an "innie" who works at the Lumon facility and an "outie" who never has to work a day at his life.

The downside, of course, is that the "innie" who does all the work suffers an endless nine-to-five loop, where he never leaves the desk, and is doomed to do obtuse, meaningless tasks over and over. for eternity. Y algunos empleados no tardan mucho en discrepar con un experimento kafkiano tan destructor del alma.

Mark Scout initially teams up with Lumon to escape the crippling pain of losing his wife in a car accident, allowing him to disassociate from his "outside" psyche for the better part of a week. But he becomes even more curious about the workings of the company after his friend and manager Petey stops showing up for work unannounced, while a new hire seems intent on sneaking out of the office. He cues a lot of manipulation by his employer, inexplicable kids, and a surprisingly violent nightclub.

Season 1 ended on a huge cliffhanger, with four of these wayward 'innies' successfully activating their 'remote' work psyches, jumping into the lives of their 'outies', spreading the word about their conditions, workplace cruelties and ruining reputations. of Lumon. . just before a key vote on the generalization of the dismissal procedure.

We hope to pick up from the end of the first season, when this remote activation was interrupted by the employee supervisor. This leaves Irving knocking on his office door honey, Dylan caught red-handed in Lumon's control room, "Helly" onstage at a Lumon gala after exposing company practices, and Mark at Lumon's house. his sister after freeing his wife who was still alive and working as an employee of Lumon. There is a lot going on at once, and all of these people's "outies" will suddenly be in the room after an hour of takeover.

We expect Season 2 to focus more on the world outside of Lumon Industries, with Helly's gala escape and Mark's discoveries exposing some of the company's secrets to the public. But it wouldn't be Severance without, well, the split, and we're sure to see the cast oscillate between their 'innies' and their 'outies' at times, especially when it comes to further investigating the halls of Lumon's labyrinthine office. . , which surely contains many secrets that we have yet to discover.

Speaking to Variety (opens in a new tab) about what fans can expect from the upcoming season, Stiller quipped: "I think the most important thing is how do you keep all of these things in terms of the feel of the series, while ultimately at the same time expanding the world from the end of the last episode. We brought Mark, Irving and Helly to the surface, and I think those are stories that people will be interested in. So, that balance will have to be found."

Speaking at a Comic-Con 2022 panel (per Time Magazine - opens in a new tab)), Erickson added, "I'm excited to get into Season 2 and build the world a little bit more and be able to see, with this one a slight adjustment to reality, what the different ramifications would be. We didn't want it to feel like classic science fiction. We wanted it to be much more realistic.

Oh, and hope there's some sort of reveal regarding these goats in Season 1. When asked if there was any significance to their Comic-Con appearance, Erickson simply replied, "Yes."

Breakup Season 2 Trailer

There's no official Severance season 2 trailer yet, but we got a brief glimpse during Apple's iPhone 14 event in September 2022.

The footage only shows Helly getting off a subway train, either on her way home or to her office in Lumon, so it doesn't reveal anything about the second season of the show. Still, it's a fun little Easter egg-style clip and shows just how much Apple is relying on another of its flagship shows (like Ted Lasso before it) to drive subscribers to its streaming service.

Once an official trailer is released, we will update this section.

Will we have more seasons of Severance?

Can we expect more seasons of Severance? (Image credit: Apple TV Plus)

Are there more entries after Severance Season 2? It seems likely. Severance is one of the best TV shows to land on Apple's streaming platform since it launched in 2019, and the company won't want to sleep on a certified hit. It has a 97% certified "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes, has already won multiple awards, and is sure to be a big winner on the 2023 awards circuit as well.

Ted Lasso, Apple's other hugely successful original series, is gearing up for a third season, and here's hoping Severance gets a similar treatment. It really all depends on how the second season of Severance pans out, but the quality of the storytelling so far bodes well for later seasons, and Lumon Industries' many unexplained mysteries should provide enough for a few dozen episodes before then. that everything is gone. . Don't expect Severance Season 3 2025 to be here anytime soon.
