Samsung's 2022 NEO QLED TVs eliminate the need for a Dolby Atmos soundbar

Samsung's new NEO QLED TVs for 2022 not only promise incredible picture performance, they can also sound so good you won't have to worry about a sound bar.

TV manufacturers generally make sure their TVs look their best, both in terms of picture quality and design. That means producing bright, colorful, high-resolution images on screens that keep getting thinner.

However, as TVs get thinner, the space for internal audio systems becomes limited, forcing them to rely on weaker speakers. While suitable for lower-pitched sounds, downward-firing speakers can muffle mid and high tones; as a result, even the best TVs can have fairly lackluster audio performance.

Although TVs support codecs like Dolby Atmos, they lack the hardware to put them to good use, forcing external soundbars to take over if you're looking for the best possible home theater experience.

In 2022, though, Samsung is looking to change that, as its new Neo QLEDs could finally deliver impressive audio performance without the need for a soundbar.

That's because (according to Samsung South Africa) its new Neo QLED TVs will incorporate multi-channel speakers in all of their bezels, including some speakers that will facilitate surround sound.

Using Dolby Atmos, the up-firing speakers are designed to bounce sound off ceilings to create an effect where the action is happening all around you without having to install speakers in your ceiling or around the pieza.

Usually only the best soundbars have built-in speakers, so Samsung might have eliminated the need to buy one with its new TV design.

We'll have to wait and see if the audio performance of the Samsung TVs lives up to our expectations when we get a chance to test them. However, we won't be surprised if Samsung's 2022 NEO QLED TVs end up being some of the best-performing screens we've seen in a long time.
