Samsung makes a vertical TV for all your Instagram stories.

Continuing the trend of creating new form factor displays, Samsung has announced a new TV for the South Korean market called "The Sero", capable of rotating to display videos vertically, similar to the way content is viewed. A close cousin of Samsung's Serif and The Frame TVs, the Sero will be part of the manufacturer's 2019 lineup of Samsung TVs and will also use a quantum dot display similar to the QLED TV series. According to the specifications provided by Samsung, the TV is 43 inches wide and offers 4.1-channel sound through its 60-watt speakers. The sero will also include Bixby. Because such a weird TV wouldn't be complete without Bixby. The Sero will be exclusively available in Korea for the time being with no international release in the near future, which is a shame because at just 1.9 million won (approximately €1,600, €1,260, AU$2,300), many influencers would buy this is ironically.

Vertical screens: manies or functional?

It's true that, even to us, the idea of a vertical television seems somewhat ridiculous, especially considering the exorbitant price of television. And yet, while Samsung is pushing vertical screens to the limit, other tech companies are lagging behind the idea of smaller vertical screens. Just look at the Facebook Portal, a Google Home Hub-like screen that connects you with your friends and family on Facebook. Whether vertical displays will take off outside of the PC world remains to be seen, but Samsung can't be blamed for not trying.
