In recent years, Samsung has nearly perfected the foldable phone, and the 5 Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2023 should be even better than current models.

cut to hunt

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 release date and price

It is not yet known when we could see the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, but the Galaxy Z Fold 4 was announced on August 10, 2022 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 was presented on August 11, 2021. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 it was also announced in August of its release year, albeit a little earlier, on August 5.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is likely to arrive in early to mid-August. All of these announcements also happened on a Wednesday, so our best guess for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 release date is Wednesday, August 9, 2023.

As for pricing, there's no word on that either, but the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 starts at $1,799 / £1,649 / AU$2,499, so a similar price is possible.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 News and Leaks

So far, there has been only one real leak of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, indicating that the phone has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.

It would be the successor to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipsets that power many of the 2022 Android flagships, including the Galaxy Z Fold 4. So a Gen 2 or Plus version still seemed likely.

The same source also suggests that the phone will have a triple-lens rear camera with a 50MP main sensor. That's exactly what the Galaxy Z Fold 4 has: the other two sensors are a 12 MP ultra-wide and a 10 MP telephoto lens, so that could mean there aren't many updates to the Photo device. Of course, we would take all this with a grain of salt.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5: what we want to see

For Samsung to make the ultimate foldable phone, it needs to do five key things, which we outline below.

1. The same cameras as the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

The Galaxy Z Fold 4's cameras aren't bad at all, but they're not Samsung's best, despite being the company's most expensive phone. Anyone who can spare the kind of money the Z Fold 4 costs is likely to want the best of the best, and on the camera front, it just doesn't come close.

So for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, we want the phone to match the camera setup of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, which based on its former form will probably have the best snappers in the business.

2. No visible wrinkles

As impressive as Samsung's foldable screens are, the company hasn't broken the crease, it's visible and something you can feel as you slide across the screen.

It's not a huge deal and it's something most people will quickly get used to, but it's a blemish on a great screen, so we'd like to see Samsung successfully hide it in the Galaxy Z Fold 5.

3. Lower price

The biggest problem with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is simply its price, as it's one of the most expensive phones on the planet, almost making the iPhone 14 Pro Max look cheap by comparison.

It's no surprise that the price is high given the size of the screen and the technology involved, but if this foldable lineup is ever going to truly go mainstream, the price has to come down, and we're hoping Samsung will start bringing it down with the Galaxy Z Fold 5. .

4. Faster charging

Most Samsung phones charge quite slowly, and the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is no exception. It maxes out at 25W wired or 15W wireless, both of which are well below other flagships like the 10W OnePlus 150T or 12W Xiaomi 120 Pro.

We don't expect or need Samsung to hit those kinds of charging power levels, but we'd like to see the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 at least split the difference and offer around 60W-80W.

5. Larger battery

In addition to faster charging, we also wish the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 had a bigger battery. At 4400 mAh, the Galaxy Z Fold 4's battery is mid-sized at best, and actually smaller than batteries in many mainstream phones.

But given that it has a large folding screen, it could use a particularly large battery. So, at a minimum, we want 5,000mAh in the Z Fold 5 - the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has that, so it shouldn't be too much to ask.
