Samsung Galaxy S21 launch trailer hints at new camera features and more

We expect the Samsung Galaxy S21 to launch at the Samsung Unpacked event on January 14; a new trailer makes this even more likely and also hints at some new features on the phone's camera. Samsung's official YouTube channel posted this video (which you can also watch below), and while it's only 27 seconds long, there's plenty to read. We get to see snapshots of the camera array, a graphic of the chipset, a side view of the phone, and a lot of people are dancing and skipping stuff, because that's sure to get you excited about the new phone. Of course, there is also the reiteration of the time and date of the Samsung Unpacked event. While it may seem like this is just a 'trailer teaser' for the upcoming Galaxy S21, however, if you read between the lines, some new features are suggested here.

Look with a piercing eye

At certain points in the video, some new camera modes are shown, or even shown explicitly, although they can be easy to miss. Go to 0:12 – just a clip of people recording a video, right? Well, if you look again you will see that it is recorded by both the rear and front cameras. This shows us that Samsung is following the example of Huawei, Xiaomi, Apple and many other phone companies by offering a mode where you can record from both cameras at the same time. Then, at 12:15 am, we see people jump out of a car, with photos of them. Is this an innocent example of photographs taken? We wouldn't think so, because the frames roll by so quickly that it really wouldn't be possible with normal photo modes. Either it's an allusion to a new form of single take (where you take a short video of an object or a person, and the phone pulls out the best stills from all the cameras) that works well with the action, or it's an allusion to pictures. video stills. For the Samsung Galaxy S20 line, one of the main selling points was that it could shoot 8K video and then shoot 32MP stills; maybe we'll see an improved version of that in the Galaxy S21. Finally, at 0:17, we're shown a panning video of someone in a dark alleyway, which then changes to a well-lit photo of them. It seems to trigger an enhanced version of night mode photography, which can make dark settings brighter and more detailed than a standard photo. Perhaps we will also see a version in portrait mode. These are apparently all the camera features shown in the video, though we may have missed a few. The Samsung Galaxy S21 is scheduled to launch on January 14 and TechRadar will cover the entire event, so check back in time for all the details.
