Samsung Galaxy S20 vs Samsung Galaxy S10: How is the rumored phone different?
The Samsung Galaxy S20 isn't here yet, but you'd be forgiven for thinking so. Thanks to all the leaks and rumors, we have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the phone. With that in mind, we've created this comparison that examines how the Samsung Galaxy S20 will stack up against the Samsung Galaxy S10, if the rumors are confirmed. As such, you should take all of these comparisons with a pinch of salt, as nothing is confirmed yet, but if you're considering an upgrade to Samsung's previous flagship, the changes will likely be along the lines of the following.

Samsung Galaxy S20 vs Samsung Galaxy S10 Price and Availability

The Samsung Galaxy S10 is of course available now and starts at $899 / £799 / AU$1,349. Or at least, this is the initial RRP, but many stores are now selling it for slightly less, and the price is likely to drop further once the Galaxy S20 becomes available. Speaking of which, the Samsung Galaxy S20 is almost guaranteed to be announced on February 11, and according to a slide on Samsung's own website, we expect the phone to hit stores on March 6. As for what it will cost, rumors suggest a starting price of €799 for the 4G model in the UK. We don't have a US price for this version, but depending on leaks, the 5G model could start at $899 / €874. We say "start with" because there could be versions with more RAM or storage. In Australia we can only make an estimate, the 4G model could be around AU1350-AU€1650, while the 5G version could cost AU€1700. If the rumors are correct, the Galaxy S20 could cost a similar amount to the launch price of the Galaxy S10, but then again, you can now pick up the old phone for much less.

design

We don't expect the Samsung Galaxy S20 to be much different from the Samsung Galaxy S10. According to the leaks, it should have a glass back and a metal frame, just like its predecessor, and a curved display, which we'll get to below. The main visual change will probably be the cameras, the front snapper on the Galaxy S20 seems to be in a hole in the top center of the screen, while on the Galaxy S10, it sits in the corner. top right The rear cameras appear to run vertically in the upper left corner of the rear on the Galaxy S20, while on the Samsung Galaxy S10, they rotate horizontally on the back.

The S10 (above) may have a different camera setup, but otherwise it seems

The S10 (above) may have a different camera setup, but otherwise looks similar to (Image credit: Future) It also looks like the S20 may have slightly smaller bezels than the S10, but this difference is probably negligible. And it doesn't look like the new phone has a 3.5mm headphone port, like the older model does. Regarding the dimensions and weight, the Samsung Galaxy S20 would have 152 x 68 x 7.9 mm and 164 g, while the Galaxy S10 would have 149.9 x 70.4 x 7.8 mm and 157 g. This makes them almost exactly the same size, which isn't surprising since the S20 is likely to have a slightly larger screen but, thanks to the aforementioned smaller bezels, a similar size. The S20 is rumored to be IP68 certified for dust and water resistance, just like the S10. Finally, we've heard that the Samsung Galaxy S20 will be available in Cosmic Grey, Cloud Blue, and Cloud Pink. The Samsung Galaxy S10 is available in Prism Black, Prism Blue, Prism White, Flamingo Pink, Prism Green, Prism Silver, and Canary Yellow.

display

The Samsung Galaxy S20 is said to have a 1440-inch 3200 x 6.2 Dynamic AMOLED display with a 20:9 aspect ratio and 563 pixels per inch. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S10 has a 6.140-inch 1440 x 3040 Dynamic AMOLED display with a 19:9 aspect ratio and a density of 550 pixels per inch. So the S20 is slightly bigger, sharper, and narrower if the rumors are correct, but the difference seems small. However, there are two potentially major differences. For one, the Samsung Galaxy S20 is widely used to have a 120Hz refresh rate, which would make interactions and animations smoother than on the Galaxy S60's 10Hz. The other big possible difference is the curvature of the screen, as at least one source surprisingly suggested that the curve would be less pronounced on the Galaxy S20 than on the Samsung Galaxy S10.

specs

It goes without saying that the Samsung Galaxy S20 will be more powerful than the Samsung Galaxy S10. There are rumors of a Snapdragon 865 chipset in some regions (probably the US) and an Exynos 990 in others (probably the UK), but these are two high-end smartphone chipsets that should be better than any chipset found in 2019. Android phones. The Samsung Galaxy S10 uses either the Snapdragon 855 or the Exynos 9820, depending on which country you buy it from. These are the previous major versions of each chipset, so they're still powerful, but a year older and less powerful. For RAM, the Samsung Galaxy S20 is said to generally ship with 12GB, although some regions may get an 8GB model. The Galaxy S10 can only go with 8GB, so there's likely less in there, though it's still powerful. The S20 is also likely to be available in a 5G version, while the standard Galaxy S10 only supports 4G. When it comes to storage, the Samsung Galaxy S20 might have 128GB of the stuff, but that's one area where the Galaxy S10 could have the upper hand, as it's available in both 128GB and 512GB versions. , although we cannot exclude the possibility that there are also several versions of the S20. The software should be similar on both phones, as the Samsung Galaxy S10 ships with Android 9 and can be upgraded to Android 10, and we expect the Galaxy S20 to have Android 10 on day one. It's also likely to use a Samsung overlay similar to the Galaxy S10.

Camera and battery

Most of the leaks suggest that the Samsung Galaxy S20 will have a 12MP main camera, a 64MP telephoto lens and a 12MP wide-angle one. We don't know all the details of these lenses, but apparently the phone will be capable of 3x optical zoom, 30x digital zoom, and 8K video recording. The Samsung Galaxy S10 has a 12MP main camera with a variable aperture, a 12MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom capability, and a 16MP ultra-wide camera with the ability to record 4K video. So the setup of the Galaxy S20 looks similar, but with a few upgrades, especially to the telephoto lens, which, if the rumors are correct, has a lot more megapixels and better optical zoom.

Samsung galaxy s10

Both phones could have three rear cameras (Image credit: Future) Moving up to the front patch, you get a 10MP on the Samsung Galaxy S10 and, apparently, a 10MP on the Galaxy S20 as well, although the S20 may have been improved from other ways. As for the battery, it's 3.400 mAh on the Samsung Galaxy S10 and probably 4.000 mAh on the Samsung Galaxy S20, so the next phone could be an upgrade. It could also charge faster, with reports of a 25W charger in the box, while the Galaxy S10 only supports 15W charging. The S20 may go even further, supporting 45W charging like the Samsung Galaxy. Note 10 Plus.

To go

If all this happens, the Samsung Galaxy S20 will have a faster chipset, more RAM, a bigger and faster charging battery, improved (albeit similar) cameras, and a sharper and slightly larger screen. The design may not be much different and may actually have less storage than the Samsung Galaxy S10. It will also cost more than the Galaxy S10 currently, if not necessarily more than the S10 when it launches. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S20 looks like a minor upgrade in most cases, but just a big upgrade in some. For really big improvements, you'll probably have to turn to the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus or the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra.
