Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 could arrive in April 2020

Samsung's first foldable smartphone was announced in February 2019 alongside the Galaxy S10 range, but sustainability issues have brought the Galaxy Fold back to the drawing board.

However, even before its September revised version was announced, Vine began reporting on a second folding phone from the South Korean electronics giant.

We have already heard of the Galaxy Fold 2, whose name is yet to come, with a smaller screen than the current Fold, with a design similar to a folding phone. It appears that Samsung has decided to make another change to the Fold 2 screen, according to a new report published by the Korean publication ETNews.

Samsung can replace the transparent polyimide (PI) protective layer in the current fold & apos; s for an ultra-thin scratch-resistant glass (UTG) in the second-generation flip phone.

Cost reduction

However, UTG is not cheap. The same ETNews report suggests that the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 will be cheaper at around € 1,500 (roughly € 1,165 / € 2,197), which is significantly lower than the exorbitant price of the current Fold, € 1,980. / € 1,800. If this is true, then Samsung may decide to stick to the PI layer to reduce production costs.

Another way to lower the price of the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 would be to offer a model with less storage. The Fold is currently offered in a single 512GB version, but according to SamMobile, Samsung could offer a 256GB option with the Fold 2.

We really hope that Samsung will lower the price of the Fold 2 (or whatever its final nickname is), making it more accessible to the masses. And although the redesigned Galaxy Fold still has its problems, Samsung would have a lot to learn from this experience and the launch of its next folding phone will be much easier.

According to Korean financial publication The Bell, Samsung is expected to announce Fold 2 (currently codenamed "Bloom") in April 2020.
