Samsung could be working on a 5G successor to its weirdest recent phone

The Samsung Galaxy A80 2019 was an interesting experiment from the company, as it had mid-range specs and a pop-up camera segment that rotated to take selfies. It seems that a successor to this smartphone is on the way. Dutch tech website GalaxyClub has apparently gotten word that a Samsung Galaxy A82 is in the works, though aside from it apparently supporting 5G, nothing has been shared about the phone. In fact, we've heard of a Galaxy A82 before: in early 2020, Samsung filed for trademarks for its AX2 series of Galaxy phones (those released throughout 2021), and the A82 was on the list. So it looks like the Korean company could be working on a successor to its pop-up camera phone, although as GalaxyClub points out, a phone developed like the Galaxy A81 launched as the Galaxy Note 10 Lite. So take this with a pinch of salt for now.

Big changes are needed

We didn't give the Samsung Galaxy A80 a rave review as it had a few issues that prevented us from fully recommending it. The main problem was the popup segment itself. It was slow to use, collected more dust than a vacuum cleaner, and felt brittle and shaky both getting up and resting; You can read our Galaxy A80 design review section for more details on these issues. That's not all: the phone felt sluggish to use, was a bit more expensive than it should have been, didn't do well in camera tests, and didn't let you use many features. of the rear camera to take selfies, negating half the reason you'd have a rotating camera. So if the Samsung Galaxy A82 is another emerging beast, and not a Lite version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20, we'd like to see improvements on many fronts.
