Samsung Announces CRG5: Its First G-Sync Compatible Gaming Monitor
Samsung has announced the CRG5, a 27-inch curved gaming monitor that not only runs at 240Hz, but also supports Nvidia G-Sync, providing a fun gaming experience. The Samsung CRG5 was unveiled today at the E3 2019 computer game show and will be available in July for €399 (approximately €315, or AU$580). But for that price, you get a nice curved Full HD (1920x1080) panel, running at 240Hz with G-Sync compatibility. This balance of price and performance should set it apart among the best gaming monitors. And unlike many other fast gaming displays, the Samsung CRG5 has a VA panel, giving it a 3.000:1 contrast ratio. Combined with the 1500R screen curvature, there's no need to replace immersion with high frame rate. Don't forget that it's a G-Sync compatible display. So instead of supporting native G-Sync, it has passed Nvidia's specifications, like every other FreeSync monitor for G-Sync.

Samsung CRG5

What does CRG5 look like?

We have recently personally reviewed the Samsung CRG5, and we can let you know right now that it is very beautiful. Even if we tested Devil May Cry V with a mouse and keyboard, and we don't recommend this particular experience to anyone, the game felt extremely smooth. Sitting in front of the curved VA panel, running this fast-paced action game at 240Hz was definitely an interesting experience. Devil May Cry V has the feeling that it is designed to go fast. But all of this is to be expected on a monitor with this kind of refresh rate. What's particularly notable here is how the screen actually looks. Thanks to this 3,000:1 contrast ratio and high color accuracy, the dark scenes in Devil May Cry V look great. We don't see any of the detail get lost or the darkness disappear. The monitor itself is also lovely. Although the glasses are not the thinnest in the world, they are thin enough that they are not noticeable during gameplay. As expected, the bottom lens is thicker than the others and doesn't look like it. It has that subtle Samsung branding. At the back you will find all the entrances and they are all contained in one easily accessible area. Cables can be routed to the laptop stand, which should make your desk a lot cleaner. At the end of the day, while we had little time with the CRG5, it's easy to see that it's going to be a popular display. And, for just €399 (around £315, AU$580), it's hard to find fault to complain about. Image credits: TechRadar E3 2019 is the biggest gaming event of the year.
