Samsung 8K Neo QLED TVs: Everything we know so far about the 2022 models

Samsung has finally unveiled a new lineup of 8K Neo QLED TVs for 2022.

Features Samsung 8K Neo QLED

- Release planned for 2022
- Possibly more expensive than last year's models
- TVs are available in 55, 65, 75 and 85 inches (depending on the model)
- Neo QLED panels offer vivid colors
- New Neo Quantum processor
- HDMI 2.1 support for 120Hz at 4K; low input lag
- Multi-directional speakers and Dolby Atmos support

Samsung introduced the new QN700B, QN800B and QN900B 8K Neo QLEDS, giving us three new ways to upgrade our home theater systems to include super sharp 8K images. If you're currently using a 4K TV, an 8K offering would offer four times as many pixels as you're used to; while those who still have HD would see a 16x sharper picture if they upgrade to 8K.

Plus, thanks to Samsung's impressive Neo QLED technology, you can expect bright images with fairly decent contrast in darker scenes. Contrast won't be as good as a standard OLED TV, or one of Samsung's QD-OLED screens, but there are still plenty of good reasons to go for the QN700B, QN800B or QN900B over anything else.

Below, we've rounded up everything we know about Samsung's 8K Neo QLED lineup for 2022, so read on to find out which one we expect to be among the best TVs of the year.

Samsung 8K Neo QLED TV Price

At this time, we don't have any pricing details yet for the Samsung 8K Neo QLED TVs, however we probably won't have to wait too long to find out as pre-orders will be available on March 16.

That said, we can take a look at what Samsung's 2021 QLED lineup has released to get an idea of the price we're likely to see this year.

The cheapest Neo QLED right now, the QN85A, starts at €1,299 (about $900 / AU$1,650) for a 55-inch size, but the larger 900-inch QN8 85K QLED is $8,999 (about $6,500). €11,700 / AU$XNUMX).

Expect to see Samsung's 2022 range move closer to the higher end of that scale, especially if you're looking for a big TV. Upgrading to 8K resolution from 4K won't be cheap.

Like what we saw last year, we expect the smaller Samsung QN700B 8K QLED to be the cheapest, followed by the QN800B and QN900B respectively, with the 900-inch QN85B likely to cost at least as much as Samsung. dear together 2021.

However, we will have to wait and see what Samsung has planned for us.

Samsung 8K Neo QLED TV release date

Announced via the official Samsung Newsroom website, Samsung's three 8 Neo 2022K QLED TVs will launch on April 6, with pre-orders starting March 16. You'll also be able to pre-register your interest for a pre-order starting February 22, if you're determined to pick up one of Samsung's latest Neo-QLEDs for yourself.

Well, in Europe and the UK at least. Unfortunately, the US and Australian release details are yet to be set in stone.

However, we hope that the global launch will not be delayed much after the date of April 6 for those in Europe. We will have to wait to see what Samsung announces, but hopefully we can all enjoy its new Neo QLED televisions soon.

Samsung Neo QLED TV: Picture Quality

The most impressive entries in Samsung 2022 TVs will come with 8K and Neo QLED, that's amazing... but what does that really mean?

Starting with resolution, 8K means the TV will have four times the resolution of 4K. Instead of being 3840 x 2160 pixels, it is twice as long horizontally and vertically (7680 x 4320), resulting in four times as many pixels in total.

The benefit of this denser pixel count is that images will come out even sharper and clearer than we've seen before. Also, Samsung TVs will have upscaling technology built in, so if you're watching something in 4K, the TV will automatically upscale it to look more like an 8K picture. It won't be as good as viewing a native 8K image, but it's still a step up from using a 4K display.

As for the Neo QLED part, it is the type of TV panel used in televisions. Neo QLED is an evolution of Samsung's existing QLED technology, which stands for "Quantum Dot LED". These types of TVs offer brighter, more vivid colors than standard LCD or OLED screens.

Neo QLED changes things up a bit by using a Mini LED backlight, made up of tens of thousands of tiny LEDs, for much more precise brightness control. It's not as good as OLED, but it will give users a happy medium between OLED and QLED.

On top of all that, these TVs will support HDR10+ and 14-bit mapping. This should add even more detail to particularly dark and bright areas of the image. Meanwhile, the Sharp Adaptive Light control will attempt to produce the highest quality, most accurate image possible at all times.

the TL; DR here is that you can expect very good picture performance from Samsung's 8K Neo QLED in 2022.

Samsung 8K Neo QLED TV: Smart TV Design and Features

Unfortunately, as Samsung introduces new, smaller Neo OLED TVs to its QN4B 90K lineup, adding 43-inch and 50-inch sizes, its 8K offerings will remain as big as ever.

The Samsung QN700B will offer users a choice of 55-, 65- and 75-inch models, while the QN800B and QN900B will come in 65-, 75- and 85-inch sizes.

Also, it looks like the TV's bezel will be almost completely absent, except for a tape around the top and sides, with a slightly thicker bar at the bottom. If you're looking for a TV that doesn't offer any distraction from what's on the screen, this year's Samsung QLEDs could be for you.

When it comes to smart TV features, you can expect Samsung's Tizen OS to return this year.

This easy-to-use and fast operating system is one of the best because it reduces clutter, offers a great mix of customization options, and quick access to the apps you used most recently.

The only downside is that the universal search feature has been hit and miss in the past, but with the release of these premium packages, we may see some updates to the operating system to fix some of these issues.

Samsung 8K Neo QLED TV: Audio Performance

While we'd always recommend pairing a TV with one of our picks for the best soundbars of 2022 for a high-end home cinema experience, Samsung's 8K range might be capable of producing impressive sound on its own.

The new Neo QLEDs will feature multi-directional speakers that, for the first time, will support Dolby Atmos surround sound. That's great news, even if you decide to opt for a soundbar or other external sound system. In fact, the TV's Dolby Atmos codec support will allow you to get the most out of your sound system, if it also supports Atmos.

We don't yet know how powerful the new speakers will be, but Samsung is promising something special with its upcoming 8K TVs, so we're hoping we'll be impressed.

Samsung 8K Neo QLED TV: Gaming

Samsung's 2022 Neo QLED TVs look like a big win for gamers looking to get the most out of their Xbox Series X or PS5.

Later in 2022, TVs will be updated with Samsung Gaming Hub, a dedicated interface that makes cloud gaming services like Nvidia GeForce Now and Google Stadia available to play directly from the TV without the need for external devices.

Plus, on the hardware side, you can expect low input lag (which Samsung's 4K TVs have traditionally been fantastic at) and 144Hz refresh rate support on select models to get that all-important 4K@120HZ gaming. Or maybe even 8K @ 60Hz if you have the right gear.

It's unclear which of their TVs will get this high refresh rate support, but we're hoping it'll make it to their premium 8K TVs. Of course, we will have to wait for the official specifications of each model and each size to be sure.
