Redmi K30 could sport a 120Hz screen and Sony IMX686 60MP camera
The upcoming Redmi K30 5G is starting to take shape, as a new report suggests, we'll be getting a 120Hz display, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and the new Sony IMX686 60MP image sensor. XDA Developers detected these hardware elements in the MIUI 11 build code and partly explained why the device might be the Redmi K30. All of the aforementioned additions will appear on a Xiaomi smartphone under the codename "Phoenix". This code presents the graphic indications of a phone similar to the Redmi K30, whose photo was shared by the company's general manager, Lu Weibing. Whatever it is, take these correlations with a grain of salt.

Side Mount Fingerprint Scanner

In the new version of MIUI 11, a new method called "isBroadSideFingerprint" has been added. This method returns true if the device name is "Phoenix" or "Picasso". We don't know much about Picasso at the moment, but he shares most of the above. "BroadSide" refers to the right side of the device, explains the string that accompanies this code. A graphic titled "core_scan_gesture_broadside" shows a device with a dual-perforation screen with a fingerprint reader on the right side. Considering that the Redmi K30 is the only confirmed device in Xiaomi's wallet to carry such a notch, this leads us to believe that we are talking about the same device.

120Hz refresh rate display

Last month, Xiaomi was working on a smartphone with a 120Hz refresh rate display, after a hidden setting to force ground the 120Hz display. Of course, that didn't work, none of Xiaomi's current smartphones hit the 60Hz threshold. However, a method called "isSuppotHighFrameRate" returns true if the device name matches "Phoenix". This could mean that the Redmi K30 could be one of the first phones with a high refresh rate.

Image sensor Sony IMX686

Sony recently shared several samples of its upcoming IMX686 image sensor, without touching on the specs. These were shared only on Weibo, which could imply that the first wave of IMX686 sports phones will be in China. The only confirmed specification is that the sensor will be 60MP in size. The Qualcomm camera library for "Phoenix" includes strings named "phoenix_imx686", "phoenix_s5k3t2", "phoenix_gc02m1_depth", and "phoenix_gc02m1_front". The S5K3T2 is an ISOCELL from Samsung with a resolution of 20 Mpx and a sensor size of 1 / 3.4 inches. This also technically confirms that the phone will have at least three cameras on the back and one on the front.

Launch scheduled for December

The Redmi K30 is expected to be unveiled in China in December and available early next year. The codename "phoenixin" is also mentioned in the source code, indicating that there is also a variant of the phone intended for the Indian market. We should soon know everything about the successor to the Redmi K20 Pro.
