PS5 could instantly throw you into multiplayer mayhem
Sony has released a patent that appears to detail how the PS5 will support the launch of live gameplay. In other words, this is how the PS5 could allow players to jump right into aspects of different games (such as matchmaking, continuing to save the game, etc.) without having to start the full game. Sony's patent, published by the USPTO and titled "Dynamic Interfaces to Initiate Direct Play," details how the PS5 operating system will allow gamers to define "models" to engage in gaming activities almost instantly. This means you can proceed to create Overwatch matches, for example, right from your home screen. This would avoid the need to take steps like starting a full game and selecting particular game modes. It would also make it easier for players to quickly jump between the games they have installed.

Faster than ever

(Image credit: Sony) We already knew that the PS5's super-fast SSD will allow us to install and remove parts of the game rather than the entire product, so it makes sense that you can access those parts separately as well. Mark Cerny basically revealed the same direct-play launch system in last year's Wired interview, explaining that Sony wants players to be able to jump into games with few obstacles. "We don't want the player to start the game, see what's going on, start the game, see what's going on," Cerny said. "Multiplayer game servers will provide the console with all achievable activities in real time. "Single player games will provide information such as the quests you could do and the rewards you could receive for completing them, and all of these options will be visible in the UI.” Sony has promised that the PS5 will be fast, but the next-gen console could exceed our expectations and use storage much more efficiently.
