The PS5 controller will work with your PS4 too, if this Sony leak is to be believed
A key feature of the PS5 controller has apparently been leaked, and by PlayStation itself, no less. As seen by GamesRadar, a comparison page for the Sony PS4 and PS4 Pro seemed to list the two consoles as compatible with DualShock 4 and DualShock 5 controllers - "DS4/DS5". This is the first time we've heard confirmation of current-gen consoles supporting the next-gen controller. The page was listed by PlayStation France, though the screenshot below was posted on the Resetera forum site before the company detected the leak. While this may be a typo, which we should at least consider, the official listing on a highly technical page means that the PS5 controller is much more likely to work on old and new consoles.

(Image credit: Resetera) We know that Sony is putting a lot more thought into backwards compatibility in general, and it would be a good option for gamers looking to enhance their PS4 experience without upgrading to a hundreds-dollar console.

No return

Sony Interactive President Jim Ryan spoke about the controller's high-end capabilities, highlighting the improvements its audio and touch enhancements (instead of the DualShock 4's rumbling feature) have on existing PlayStation games. Ryan said: "The 3D audio and controller haptic feedback support are also things that when you try them you will be surprised at the magnitude of the change. Even when playing the racing game Gran Turismo The Sport with a PlayStation 5 controller is a Completely different experience."Although it works well with the previous controller, there is no feedback possible after experiencing the detailed road surface through haptic control and playing using the adaptive triggers. "We also expect the PS5 controller to work on PC, as the DualShock 4 currently does.
