Prime Video calls Jack Ryan after 4 seasons, but it's not all bad news (*two*)

The end is near for Jack Ryan, with news last night (May 9) that Prime Video will call showtime after its fourth season airs.

Deadline reports that the show, which stars John Krasinski in the title role, will end at the end of its fourth season. The third season of the show, although boxed, does not yet have a release date on Prime Video, while the production of the fourth is underway.

The report states that Krasinski had committed to four seasons and this is simply the end of that commitment.

Jack Ryan is the brainchild of the late author Tom Clancy and has been the subject of 21 novels that have sold over 100 million copies. He was previously portrayed in films by Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin, Ben Affleck, and Chris Pine before being rebooted for television by Krasinski and Prime Video in 2018.

Ryan de Krasinski is a former Navy veteran who now works as a financial analyst for the CIA. Happy to sit behind his desk and perform numbers on him, Ryan finds himself constantly in the line of fire.

The show was a hit for Prime Video and strong for critics, earning an average rating of 71% on Rotten Tomatoes. In a way, it's a surprise to see the show come to an end, but it seems to be more about keeping Krasinski around.

The star, who oversees the ever-expanding A Quiet Place franchise, is also signed to make IF, a star-studded romantic comedy for Paramount, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Steve Carrell among its cast. On top of that, it sounds like there could be an upcoming role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so his departure from Jack Ryan is probably due to that.

And Prime Video can't be too unhappy with the series, since they're considering a spin-off...

A spin-off, you say?

Indeed. Deadline's report suggests that while Krasinski is set to be released, a new character is soon to be introduced who is lined up to get his own spin-off.

Ant-Man star Michael Peña has already been confirmed to join the show, but in an unnamed role, now reportedly dubbed Domingo "Ding" Chavez. He adds that Pena now seems ready to get his own spinoff after Jack Ryan ends.

Chavez is a soldier who joins the CIA directly from the US Army and becomes a key member of Rainbow Six, the international counter-terrorism unit and the inspiration behind the hit video game franchise.

Chavez appeared in 22 of Clancy's novels and was previously portrayed by Raymond Cruz in the film adaptation of Clear and Present Danger, starring Ford as Ryan.

The plan, it seems, is to introduce Peña at the end of Jack Ryan's third season and then make him a key player in the fourth inning, allowing him to go on adventures of his own.

It would fit nicely with the Rainbow Six movie project, which will also star Michael B. Jordan as John Clark, having made his debut in No Regrets in 2021. There's no release date for this yet, but it does indicate plans. to complete the formation of the infamous International Counter-Terrorism Unit are bearing fruit.
