Pokémon Unite has rallied fans, hating the game's revealed video

The Pokémon Unite video ad has been critically panned on YouTube, to the point that it has become one of the most hated videos of all time by the Nintendo property. After teasing a new announcement last week, where The Pokémon Company introduced New Pokémon Snap and Pokémon Café Mix, fans were eagerly awaiting something special. Instead, they got a free mobile game and a Nintendo Switch MOBA game in partnership with Chinese publishing giant Tencent, which earned it 164,000 dislikes at the time of writing. So what is Pokemon Unite? Well, it's a five vs. five team fighting game where you compete in an arena and try to control various key points. Your Pokémon can level up and get new moves, but there is no type advantage or turn-based combat. It's coming to mobile and Nintendo Switch, and you can check out the announcement video below.

A tyrant

As spotted by Bronyficent on the Nintendo Switch subreddit, Pokémon Unite has now reclaimed the unfortunate title of Nintendo's Most Hated Video, though there's a caveat. The video was uploaded to The Pokémon Company, which is largely independent of Nintendo, although Nintendo has a 33% stake in the company. However, it has now dethroned the likes of Metroid Prime: Federation Force, which has amassed 94,000 dislikes; last year at Nintendo Treehouse: Live for Pokémon Sword and Shield with 89,000 dislikes; and the Dyl Byleth Smash Bros Ultimate, which has a total of 86,000 likes at the time of writing.

not digglet

Does this mean that Pokémon Unite died on arrival, then? Well no, not necessarily. Pokémon Sword and Shield continued to sell incredibly well, and while Byleth wasn't a popular choice for Super Smash Bros Ultimate (more Fire Emblem characters, Sakurai, please), we bet it didn't stop people from downloading it in bulk. Even Nintendo's announcement video for Nintendo Switch Online was met with 84,000 dislikes, yet the service continued to gain millions of subscribers. The angry reaction from fans seems to be closer to the expectation created by The Pokémon Company, rather than the game itself. After showing off New Pokémon Snap, which by contrast has 15,000 likes and only 160 dislikes, fans were upset when the long wait was a spin-off game based on the Pokémon formula. A misunderstanding, then, but one that clearly irritated fans to express their dissatisfaction thanks to the power of YouTube's dislike button. Today's Best Pokemon Deals Pokemon Sword - Nintendo...
