Earlier this year, Niantic announced its Wayfarer tool for Pokémon Go that would finally allow players to have some influence over key points on the game's map. The various functionalities of the tool were gradually rolled out to players in limited numbers, but shortly after the release of a Gym and PokéStops contribution system, Niantic was forced to discontinue it due to "Overwhelming Response" from players. This almost brings you back to those early days of Pokémon Go in 2016, when the game's servers couldn't keep up with the amount of player demand. This time, however, Niantic takes the lead and acts first by disabling the tool to "avoid stability issues."

Pokémon Go The broader idea of the Wayfarer tool is that it allows players (currently only those over 40 in Pokémon Go) to name and review new locations for PokéStops and Gyms, as well as modify existing locations. The hope is that allowing community contributions will encourage players to get out and explore, while the review and improvement system will keep locations and information accurate and informative. The contribution system that has been disabled allows players over the age of 40 to make suggestions for changes to current locations. Changes that can be made include titles, descriptions, and photos. Niantic has made it clear that PokéStop and Gym contributions won't be offline forever, but has given no hint of their return.
