It's encouraging to see that PlayStation is so generous with its March sale. I've long felt that Xbox Game Pass has the upper hand when it comes to giving gamers value for money. When it comes to game subscription services, Game Pass still easily dominates PlayStation Now.

However, while Microsoft's service is still undoubtedly a great subscription-based offering, it looks like Sony is taking a cue from the Steam playbook by offering a huge seasonal sale designed to bring customization to a wide range. of genres. Although Game Pass's robust library has often been touted as its most distinctive feature, it seems Sony has built a pretty impressive back catalog of its own.

While hugely popular, Game Pass has been something of a double-edged sword for Microsoft, so it's easy to see why Sony may be reluctant to follow in its footsteps. On the contrary, Steam has shown that buy-to-play sales models can still be successful. Steam sales remain an institution in the PC gaming community, and the summer and winter sales have my colleagues buying far too many games.

If PlayStation can establish its own brand of seasonal sales, it can finally allow its store to escape the shadow cast by Xbox Game Pass by offering competitive and attractive purchase deals for console owners.

That said, regardless of the long-term ramifications for the gaming industry, the PlayStation Store's Mega March sale is worth checking out if you're looking to pick up a new game on the cheap.
