(*7*)Until now, we haven't heard much about the rumored Google Pixel 7 launch later this year, but the first version of Android 13 that was sent to developers may have revealed some details about the 2022 flagship phone.
(*7*)9to5Google's diligent searches have identified a Samsung modem number called G5300B, which is tied to a chip with the designation GS201, (*13*) in layman's terms, referring to a new Google Tensor processor with a new modem on board.
(*7*)Furthermore, this new GS201 chipset, likely the Google Tensor 2, according to previous leaks, is associated with three devices (*13*) in the software code, including the so-called Cheetah and Panther. These could very well be the codenames (*13*) of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones.
Everything is (*13*) the names
(*7*)A little history of Pixel codenames (*13*) is helpful here: the Pixel 6 had the internal moniker Oriole and the Pixel 6 Pro used Raven. Add the supposed (*13*) key names for the Pixel 6a and Pixel Fold, Bluejay and Pitpit respectively, and you can see the avian theme.
(*7*)That Google now appears to have switched to big cats (*13*) instead of birds is another sign that these mystery devices are (*13*) actually the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. If they launch a year later than its predecessors, it will be (*13*) October 2022.
(*7*)The last phone linked to the GS201 has the code name (*13*) Ravenclaw. Rather than being a Harry Potter reference point, this perhaps suggests a connection between birds and cats; specifically, Google could be using the Pixel 6 Pro to test the performance of the Tensor 2 CPU.
Analysis: Google will want to continue its Pixel push
(*7*)After a rather disappointing cycle of the Pixel 5 and Pixel 5a, the latter phone only being released (*13*) in the US and Japan, Google came back strong with the Pixel 6 devices. (*7*)With that (*13*) in mind, Google will want to continue the push with its Pixel 7 lineup. That should mean a faster processor (as previously rumored), even better camera performance, and so many improvements of software as can be adapted to Android 13.
(*7*)Let's not forget the Pixel Fold and Pixel Watch, which we also hope to see introduced (*13*) sometime (*13*) 2022. As the Pixel ecosystem grows and matures, the idea of buying a smartphone Pixel becomes more attractive to potential buyers.
