Publishing and SaaS giant J2 Global has quietly acquired certain assets owned by ibVPN, a Romania-based VPN provider. We reviewed ibVPN a while back and found that it offers an interesting range of VPN and privacy features. According to a statement, the acquisitions are expected to "increase the company's global customer base, provide access to new markets and expand J2 Global's product line." Terms of the individual acquisitions were not disclosed. The company went shopping in 2019, adding VPN functionality to its popular Speedtest service, and acquiring SaferVPN, Encrypt.me, IPVanish, StrongVPN, and Buffered VPN. It has also started bundling VPN services with Sugarsync, its cloud storage offering. It then acquired RetailMeNot.com and SRFax, one of the few remaining online fax services, in September 2020.
