Bong Joon-ho's classroom-focused thriller Parasite became the first foreign-language film to win Best Picture at the 2020 Oscars. The film also won Best Director, Best International Film, and Best Original Screenplay. It was the first time that a South Korean film had won an Oscar. 1917, the film, some of whom had hoped to be winners due to their Golden Globe and BAFTA victories, was content with awards for cinematography, sound mixing and visual effects. The other categories have largely leaned in predictable directions. All acting categories, including Best Actor winner Joaquin Phoenix for Joker and Renée Zellweger for Judy, lined up with expectations based on the results of the SAG, BAFTA and Golden Globe Awards. Taika Waititi's Jojo Rabbit won the award. for best adapted screenplay. The victory of the parasite is a big problem. This is an amazing and often shocking film that has things to say about the kind that you would never see expressed in the same way in a Hollywood production.
