OnePlus 9 prototype goes on sale on eBay, very briefly

We can't wait to see the OnePlus 9 when it's unveiled in March or April, but it looks like someone already got their hands on a first prototype and actually tried to sell it on eBay. As Android Central reports, the listing has since been removed, but the seller was asking $3,000 (about $2,240 / AU$3,950) for the phone. We don't expect the OnePlus 9 to be that expensive when it appears. According to the listing, this is the same prototype that we've already seen leaked photos of, complete with the special logo on the back that OnePlus uses for its prototypes. A 6.6-inch screen, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and a 48MP main camera are mentioned. We've heard some of these specs before, from the same source: it seems like the prototype that escaped OnePlus' clutches gives us a pretty good idea of what to expect from the next flagship phone in this series.

What to expect

Verified again in this eBay listing is the Snapdragon 888 processor, the next-generation Qualcomm chipset we plan to power many high-end Android smartphones throughout 2021. We've also heard from separate internal sources that the OnePlus 9 will come with a faster charging, faster wireless charging, and a larger battery compared to what's on board the OnePlus 8. The OnePlus is said to launch in March 2021, which would come as a surprise given that the OnePlus 8 appeared in April 2020. Introducing phones earlier than usual seems like a trend we'll see next year. . One detail we haven't heard rumors about yet is price, but we expect the OnePlus 9 and its Pro variant to be relatively affordable. We'll likely see a more affordable Lite version of the phone appear at some point as well.
