OnePlus 9 Pro renders suggest it could see significant camera degradation

We started seeing leaked OnePlus 9 renders ahead of the phone's launch, and the latest images we saw suggest that the Pro version of the phone may bring some sort of downgrade from the OnePlus 8 Pro's camera. LetsGoDigital has just released new OnePlus renders 9 Pro, based on various leaked details on the phone. These are slightly updated images compared to previous OnePlus 9 Pro renders we've seen, though the differences are limited (read: almost indistinguishable). These images show a phone with a display similar to the 8 Pro, which is curved around the edges and has a 'punch-hole' selfie camera cutout in exactly the same position as before. The button positions, with the volume rocker on the left edge of the phone and the power button and alert slider on the right, are the same as on the company's previous phones. The main difference between these renderings of the OnePlus 9 Pro and the ones above, and between what these images show and the 8 Pro, is in the camera department. Although the OnePlus 8 Pro has a central camera bump on the back of the phone, renderings suggest that on the 9 Pro the block will be on the top left and also shows that the camera module is taller and thicker. than in the previous images.

OnePlus 9 Pro camera downgrade

Looking at the new renderings of the OnePlus 9 Pro, we can see four cameras. Two have large lenses, which can be either a main camera and a telephoto or ultra-wide snapper, and two have smaller lenses, which can be macro, time-of-flight (ToF), depth-sensing, or monochrome. < p lang="en" dir="ltr">OnePlus 9 Pro 5G smartphone (3D renderings and animation video) https://t.co/FtlnEnBBAs 3D rendering produced by @CConceptCreator👌 #oneplus #oneplus9pro pic.twitter .com/QFvRjdOcV4 Nov 30, 2020 It should be noted that the OnePlus 8 Pro had both telephoto and ultra-wide cameras, but this rendering implies there will only be one or the other of the 9 Pro, along with the main Snapper: telephoto, ultra-wide and wide-angle (used on the "main" cameras), all lenses tend to be relatively large, and this render only shows two that look quite large. LetsGoDigital seems to think the 9 Pro will have improved zoom capability compared to its predecessor, so one of the lenses we can see could be a telephoto lens, possibly implying the ultra-wide shooter is missing, or maybe OnePlus decided get rid of the main camera and use the ultra-wide for "standard" images. When it comes to smaller lenses, OnePlus could equip the 9 Pro with some of the auxiliary lenses from the OnePlus 8, like its macro snapper. However, in our review, we didn't find this camera very useful, certainly not the macro mode of older OnePlus phones, which used the ultra-wide camera. This render leak suggests that OnePlus is foregoing the typical 'main + telephoto + ultrawide' combo that many smartphones use to offer robust photography potential, so we'll have to see what the brand decides to do here. It is also possible, of course, that this leaked image is not accurate. We expect to see the OnePlus 9 Pro in the early months of 2021, along with the non-Pro version (and possibly a OnePlus 9E as well), and we'll have to wait until then to find out more about the phone. Stay tuned for more leaks and rumors in the meantime.
