OnePlus 9 codename leaks ahead of planned April 2021 launch

Just a few days after writing our OnePlus 9 Features Wish List, an official tweeted that the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro are currently in development under a refreshing codename. “Lemonade” is what the OnePlus 9 series is called, at least internally, according to tipster Max J. Maybe we'll see a phone with refreshing and colorful features. To that end, the tweet included a photoshopped image of the alleged OnePlus codename, superimposed by two blue flat-screen phones believed to represent the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro.

And when someone asked if the OnePlus 9 would be curved like the OnePlus 8 or flat like the OnePlus 8T, he said he "can't confirm or deny a curved screen at this point." It sounds like he expects the new line to launch in April 2021, which follows our own independent prediction of April or May 2021. That sounds like a guess, though, not a leak. (via Phone Arena)

Still almost unknown

Overall, we haven't learned much from this leak outside of the codename, perhaps because OnePlus has yet to nail down the details and differences. Based on our own OnePlus 9 predictions and hopes, the OnePlus 2021 phone may finally embrace wireless charging, an improved telephoto lens, a bigger battery, improved camera resolution, palm rejection technology, and dual selfie cameras. . . Max J. revealed in a separate tweet that the OnePlus 8 originally had five color options: "Blue, Yellow, Red, Purple, and a color similar to Aura Glow." Considering we ended up with only three color options, it's interesting to see which colors were ultimately dropped. While this is purely speculation, it wouldn't be surprising if the missing yellow color scheme made a reappearance in the Lemonade line of OnePlus phones. Otherwise, we will have to continue to wait for more concrete information on the specifications in the coming months.
