One of Dell's best laptops is now Ubuntu 22.04 certified

Developers can finally pre-install Ubuntu 22.04 LTS on the flagship Dell XPS 13 Plus laptop.

Additionally, Dell XPS 13 Plus owners can now install Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and receive the same optimizations for their hardware that will come pre-installed in the Developer Edition.

This ability to have Linux pre-installed is much more than a continuation of the 10-year partnership between Dell and Ubuntu maker Canonical that developers have seen for years. Dell now has official certification for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, which, rather than continuing the status quo, marks the next phase of the partnership that has evolved from Project Sputnik (opens in a new tab), first announced time in 2012.

Ubuntu certification goes beyond a machine's ability to run Canonical's Linux software. Instead, the program means there's a guarantee that everything works as it should, and it will support Ubuntu LTS (long-term support) updates (opens in a new tab) for up to 10 years after unpacking.

The Ubuntu Certification Program tests all certified devices in hundreds of different ways to ensure they meet high performance standards. In addition, the devices have particular drivers and software that provide features and capabilities that go beyond the standard versions.

A full list of Ubuntu 22.04 LTS update features (opens in a new tab) can be found here (opens in a new tab). Some of the included toolchains are Python, PHP, Ruby, Perl, GCC, Go, Rust, etc. (opens in a new tab).
