A popular product this holiday season, the Oculus Quest 2 headset appears to be causing skin irritation issues for a small number of users. According to Oculus, about 0.01% of Oculus Quest 2 users reported skin symptoms when using the VR headset, such as bumps, swelling, and redness. Despite such a small amount, Oculus wanted to share the information "out of an abundance of caution." Oculus believes the irritation is caused by a byproduct of the headset's manufacturing process, and said experts told them it wasn't caused by any allergic reaction. Oculus posted a statement on their corporate blog about how they are addressing the issue and that the issue some users are experiencing should be resolved on their own. However, he admitted that this issue does not meet his high standards of customer experience. "We have received reports of skin irritation from approximately 0,01% of people using the Quest 2, which occurs when the foam portion of the Quest 2 headset rests on your face," Oculus said. “While the vast majority of cases are mild and cases should resolve themselves, this does not meet our high customer experience standards. Oculus' statement then states that it takes the reports seriously and is working with experts to determine exactly why some users are reacting to the foam part of the device. “We are studying these reports and working with experts in dermatology and toxicology to better understand the nature of the irritation. These experts told us that this irritation is not an allergic reaction or a serious medical condition and should go away on its own. However, we are sharing more information about this as a precaution." If you have experienced any irritation or reaction to the foam in the headset, Oculus is also creating a program for users to replace the face pad, or "foam interface," as the company calls it. The company said it will share more information on the Oculus website when the trade-in program is ready to go. You can also contact customer service.
