Obi-Wan Kenobi's showrunner has hinted that she will be set to direct a second season of the Star Wars television series.
Speaking exclusively to TechRadar, Deborah Chow, who also directed the upcoming Obi-Wan series after her fantastic work on The Mandalorian, teased the possibility of returning for another outing if a second season is greenlit.
However, Chow tempered expectations by confirming that Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 was not yet scheduled. Additionally, the lead creator of the Star Wars show claimed that her sole goal was to make sure the first season of the Disney Plus series was the best it could be, and her attention was only focused on other projects, or Obi-Wan season 2. , once the miniseries. "I think at this point I'm still trying to finish this one," Chow said. "I've got to get over this and then I think I need a vacation! So I don't know, but I love that character. Chow's comments follow responses from Ewan McGregor, the main star of the Disney Plus show, about wanting to return for a second season. In late April, McGregor, who plays Obi-Wan, told Total Film (opens in a new tab) that he would be "absolutely interested" in doing a sequel. He's since doubled down on those comments during a chat with Entertainment Weekly (opens in a new tab) (EW), saying "Yeah, I'd love to do another one" after some encouragement.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy is also open to the possibility of continuing the Obi-Wan story, though she told EW that everyone involved would "really spend our time wondering: why? Would we?"
So it's unclear if we'll see McGregor unsheathing his lightsaber and donning Kenobi's classic robes, or Hayden Christensen stepping back into the shoes of the legendary Darth Vader. Still, even though we only have a six-episode miniseries, it feels like the Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone series is a standalone story that has a definite beginning, middle, and end. So don't expect any plot threads to remain after they're over.
Whether or not Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 is in the cards, there are plenty of other Star Wars movies and TV shows to get excited about. Meanwhile, The Bad Batch season 2 could arrive before the end of 2022.
