Nvidia RTX 3090 could be ridiculously high priced
A new rumor suggests that Nvidia's upcoming flagship Ampere graphics card, which some people are calling the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 (although we're still not convinced by the name), could be priced ridiculously high: around $2,000. The rumor stems from what appears to be an internal memo, suggesting a price of ¥13,999 in Chinese yuan, or about $2,000 / €1,500 / AU$2,800. If this is true, that would make the RTX 3090 (or whatever it's called) one of the most expensive consumer graphics cards ever made. It would also mean that this new flagship is nearly double the price of Nvidia's current flagship, the RTX 2080 Ti, which launched for $1,199 (£1,099, AU$1,899). If this rumor is true, and it's a big 'if' right now, it means you'll have to shell out a lot of money for the more powerful RTX 3000-series GPU.

Worth it?

So is a $2000 graphics card worth it? After all, for that price, you could get a new gaming PC or laptop. It's hard to say, as we don't know what the RTX 3090 would offer, if any. However, recent leaks suggest that the GPU will come with 12GB of super-fast GDDR6X memory, while another points to a whopping 24GB of memory. This could put you in the terror of the RTX Titan. Nvidia's Titan GPUs, which while based on the same technology as Nvidia's gaming GPUs, are actually aimed at content creators and come with high prices that are relatively affordable compared to professional GPUs. The current Titan card, the RTX Titan, costs $2,499 (about $2,000, AU$3,600). In fact, we have one for testing 8K gaming, although that's completely overkill for normal gaming. But if the RTX 3090 is actually a Titan-level card, it might actually be more affordable (we're using an ``affordable'' GPU here), and Nvidia won't be targeting gamers. We also don't know how much the RTX 3080 Ti / RTX 3080 Ti and other RTX 3000-series GPUs cost, and a pricey RTX 3090 could mean (if we're feeling bullish) cheaper GPUs next. Meanwhile, a poster on the Chiphell forums suggests that the top-end RTX 3000 card will cost $1,399 (about $1,000 / AU$2,000), with a Founder's Edition coming in at $1,499 (about $1,130 / AU$2,060). ). It's a bit cheaper, but it still means we should expect Nvidia's top-end GPUs to be very expensive.
