Nutribullet Smart Touch Blender Review

Nutribullet Smart Touch Blender Review

One minute review

If you're looking to make super smooth soups, purees, and smoothies, one of the best blenders is an essential item to have in your kitchen. Nutribullet is a brand renowned for creating powerful blenders that will pulverize even the toughest ingredients into smooth liquids.

The Nutribullet Smart Touch Blender is Nutribullet's best full-size blender yet. It builds on the most basic features of the original Nutribullet blender (read our Nutribullet Blender Combo review). It has an equally large 64 oz/1,85 liter carafe, but this model has a locking lid and won't work until it's in place, a welcome safety update.

The smart black base houses 1500W of power, which is 300W more than the cheapest Nutribullet blender. And this model features a sleek touchscreen control panel that offers four smart blending programs in addition to three manual speeds and a push button. Overall, we'd say the Smart Touch Blender looks and feels more premium, but it's quite a bulky device.

We found it easy to use, but the locking cap can be difficult to remove. We can't fault its blending power though; it passed nearly all of our tests and we were particularly impressed with its ability to create a smoothie without lumps. In terms of price, it's more expensive than budget mixers, but much cheaper than most higher-end models, so it'll suit someone looking for a mid-range model that offers impressive performance.

Nutribullet Smart Touch Blender Price and Availability

The Nutribullet Smart Touch Blender is available direct from Nutribullet, Amazon, and other major retailers.

In Australia, it's only available as the Nutribullet Smart Touch Blender Combo and comes with two personal cup attachments with to-go lids and an accompanying blade. The full size main mixer is exactly the same model.

The Combo model is also available in the US for €209, but it's not available in the UK.

Nutribullet Smart Touch Blender Design

The Nutribullet Smart Touch blender isn't exactly small, measuring 17 x 10,7 x 8,1 inches / 44 x 27,5 x 21 cm (H x W x D). That said, the black base is understated and feels sleeker than previous full-size blenders we've seen from Nutribullet. And we like that the touchscreen controls turn completely black when powered off, giving the device a clean look.

Once turned on, you'll see three speed options, as well as a pulse button. You can choose between four automatic programs for purées, soups, frozen drinks and smoothies. In the center is a clock that counts down for the duration of the automatic program or counts down when using the manual gears.

The large 64 oz./1,85 liter pitcher can be bolted to the base with the handle on the left or right, making it comfortable for both left and right handed users. It's made of BPA-free plastic with a large handle, which is lightweight and easy to lift.

The lid locks onto the jar via two side clips and a metal pin that connects to the jar. For safety reasons, the blender will not turn on until all are locked into position. In fact, it won't even light up gears or auto programs on the screen until everything is positioned correctly.

The blender lid has a flip-top pour spout, which means there is no need to remove the lid completely when serving drinks. There's also a removable insert in the center of the lid so you can pour in additional ingredients or insert the tamper to help move delicate mixtures while blending.

The pitcher is dishwasher safe for easy cleanup, although the manual doesn't mention whether the lid can be cleaned in the dishwasher.

Nutribullet Smart Touch blender performance

We decided to start simple, so we used the Nutribullet Smart Touch to crush ice cubes. With just five short presses of the pulse button, he turned six ice cubes into snow-like powder. However, the process was loud, hitting 87dB on our sound meter, which is a typical noise level for a mixer, although quieter models are available. Fortunately we didn't have to put up with the noise for long.

We chose the 50-second smoothie program to blend yogurt, spinach, pineapple, and banana with apple juice. Again, it was loud; it wasn't as loud as breaking ice, but the sound was piercing and we had to get away from it because it wasn't nice to be around. The milkshake, however, was an absolute triumph. The ingredients were fully blended and the mouthfeel was silky smooth. There was not a hint of pineapple fiber or even tiny grains of spinach in the drink; it was as smooth as it gets.

To crush the hazelnuts, we choose the pulse button again. It took 10 presses of the pulse button before most of the chunks were cut. The result was a slightly uneven combination of chopped nuts and powder, which is a typical result when trying to chop nuts in a blender. The noise level in this case was the same as when crushing ice.

Finally, we use the low speed setting to make fresh homemade mayonnaise. At first, when there were only two egg yolks and two teaspoons of vinegar in the blender, the amount was too small for the blades to mix. We slowly poured the oil into the center of the lid, and in just over two minutes, the Nutribullet Smart Touch emulsified the ingredients into a thick, glossy homemade mayonnaise. However, even at low speed, it was noisy and we didn't get a chance to move away from the device this time.

Strong suction cups on the base hold the Nutribullet Smart Touch firmly in place while mixing. If you wash your blender by hand, it's best to clean it with a brush to keep your fingers away from the blades. It's dishwasher safe, although frustratingly, the bottom of the jug fills with water, so when you open the dishwasher you're left with a puddle of dirty water to contend with.
