The Google Assistant now offers an option to turn off detailed answers, showing only the answers on the screen.
Google's voice assistant can be extremely useful, but until now it was also quite loud, even if you were speaking quietly. As the Android source says, the new mode means that you can finally use it at night, in a library or elsewhere, its soft tones will not be appreciated.
To disable Google on your smartphone, open the Assistant, select the "Explore" option, open the settings and go to the "Assistant" tab. Tap "Phone" and look for the option "Hands-free only" under "Voice and voice."
As the name suggests, the Google Assistant always provides spoken responses when the phone is in hands-free mode. You do not need to look at the screen if you are driving.

The new silent mode only works on smartphones, which makes sense because most Google Home speakers lack a display.
A similar option may be proposed in the future on the Google Home Hub, but for now, it may be better if the Google Assistant on the speakers is not muted. This way, your roommates can't complain that they didn't. I know you will set up a voice callback for them to empty the dishwasher.
