Not satisfied with shiny toaster, Razer brings Chroma lighting to cars too

Razer, a maker of award-winning, lightweight gaming laptops, made its first foray into the automotive industry with the launch of a limited-edition electric car.

In January, Razer announced that it was working on car lighting for the Leapmotor startup, but its recently unveiled vehicle is the result of a partnership with automaker NIO.

The 100% electric SUV, the NIO x Razer ES6 Night Explorer, is available for sale in China now, but its operation is limited to 88 cars (eight is a lucky number).

In the coming years, the two companies will collaborate to create more traditional cars that look a little less like gaming mice. Although not that flashy, they will always include chromatic lighting in the cabin, lighting synchronized with music from the entertainment system and "game integrations."

These integrations could be similar to the new Tesla Arcade, which offers a variety of games to keep drivers busy while their electric cars are charging. Once full automation has become a reality, motorists can relax and enjoy the game while traveling.

Another brilliant idea

The Razer toaster started life as a joke in April, Project Breadwinner, who promised a Chroma Energy butter application system: "Now with Razer Venom! Write your high-yield butter on your roast! Match the color to your current profile from Razer Chroma for the ultimate in Chroma Chow cooking. "

This seemed deeply unappealing, but it captured the imagination of gamers, who asked the company to turn it into a real product. In May, the company's CEO, Min-Liang Tan, finally succumbed to the pressure.

"It will take a few years, but I won't stop sharing the progress I've made, and I'll make it a community issue," Tan said on Facebook. "A Razer Toaster - For Razer Toaster Lovers By Razer Toaster Lovers."
