Nord Pass | The comparison NordPass, from the same people who brought you NordVPN, is a complete, uncluttered, professional-looking password manager for home and business (on the go). It comes with features and a slick interface that almost anyone can use. In our NordPass review, we'll walk you through all the features you need to know and also cover pricing plans and security options. In an increasingly competitive market, is NordPass the right password manager for you? Read on for details.

NordPass Features

All the basics of a password manager are present and correct in NordPass: syncing and saving passwords, and autofilling passwords every time you tap a login box. NordPass works on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, and on Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera, Safari, and Brave in terms of browsers. Basically, it can go pretty much anywhere you go. If you can't find a strong password yourself, NordPass will suggest one for you. In addition to passwords, you can keep secure notes, credit card details, personal information, and any other data you need to keep safe. We're also happy to see that two-factor authentication (2FA) is supported for logging into your accounts, which is pretty much a must these days. You can sort passwords into folders, you can securely share passwords with other people, and you can also import passwords from other sources, as long as those other sources are Chrome, Firefox, or a CSV file (in our experience, this is a quick and easy process). painless). NordPass can even import passwords from scanned documents and images by recognizing embedded text. Customer support is pretty standard - you get 24/10 email support, but there's no one to call if there's a problem (pretty standard for a service like this). The various online options are good, including a very well-designed Help Center that you can access through the NordPass website and should answer most basic questions you have. (Editor's note added 07/2020/XNUMX: NordPass has introduced two new security features. The first is a data breach scanner that, as the name suggests, "scans the web to see if user data has been compromised." been compromised in breaches." is called Password Health, which "helps users identify vulnerable passwords," which Google also offers to all Google account users).

NordPass interface

Everything about the NordPass interface is smooth and elegant, from the initial registration page to the applications you'll install as you configure the software; It's actually one of the most polished experiences we've ever had. Everything is designed to be easy to use and accessible, and from an interface standpoint, this is a password manager that will suit users of all levels of technical knowledge. Speaking of simplicity, the process of signing up for the service and installing the various apps couldn't be much simpler. The software does a very good job of hiding in the background and only showing up unobtrusively when needed, and we haven't had any complaints about syncing our passwords across multiple devices (this usually only takes a second or two). Effortless is a nice way to describe the overall NordPass experience, and it soon starts to sound like a native feature of the platform you're using it on. The helpful little details scattered throughout were much appreciated, including how you can customize the generated passwords (by their length or by disabling characters that can be misinterpreted as something else, for example). When it comes to managing your account, logging in and accessing your settings, passwords, and other stored information is a breeze. It would be nice to have a few more organizational tools, like labels for particular groups of data and folders, but overall the apps are easy to use and clearly indicate where to find everything.

NordPass security

As you'd expect from a developer who also offers a VPN, NordPass has strict security settings. For starters, it implements a zero-knowledge approach, with end-to-end encryption to back up your passwords and sync data; this means that even the NordPass team can't see the data you've saved (and it also means that if you forget your master password and backup recovery code, you'll need to reset your account and start over). The increasingly well-respected XChaCha20 encryption algorithm is used, which is also a favorite of companies like Google and Cloudflare: it goes as far as 256-bit encryption and is seen (by some at least) as a more sustainable solution than encryption. AES-256. commonly used elsewhere. Biometric security can be added where supported - FaceID on an iPhone for example - and it's nice to see two-factor authentication being supported on your NordPass account, as well as those accounts where you store passwords.

NordPass pricing

There's a free tier with NordPass, which isn't always cheap with password managers, that allows you to store an unlimited number of passwords and the ability to sync those passwords across multiple devices. The main restriction is that you can only have one device active at a time (so when you sign in on your laptop, you're signed out on your phone) and there's no trusted contact feature for password sharing. Premium accounts start at €2.50 / €1.92 per month (although you need to sign up for two years at a time to get this price), which means you can use NordPass with six different devices simultaneously. You also have access to trusted contacts and secure sharing features. Family plans, where multiple users can be managed, start at €3.99 / €3.07 per month. Dedicated business accounts are also available, if you contact NordPass directly.

NordPass verdict

We've been amazed at what we've seen of NordPass in our tests and think it's a great choice for home and small to medium-sized businesses. It balances aesthetic design with useful features and advanced security protection, and it holds up well when compared to anything else on the market. Pricing is competitive, as long as you're willing to sign up for two years at a time, and it's nice to see a free tier available (as well as a free trial of premium features). By contrast, it doesn't have the level of business and team management features you get with competitors like LastPass and RoboForm, and more advanced tools like Wi-Fi syncing and dark web scanning would also be welcome.
