Nintendo Switch Sports asks you to stay active in a new preview trailer

Nintendo Switch Sports has a new trailer that offers a fairly long and detailed dive into the title. It showcases sports and how they work, as well as various fun and competitive online modes.

Nintendo Switch Sports is just around the corner, and it will be introduced to fans on April 29. Before that, an overview trailer was released explaining how it all works, visualizing the sports and systems in the title. You can watch the nearly six-minute trailer here:

Enter each of the six events that come with the game at launch: soccer, volleyball, bowling, tennis, badminton, and chambara, all of which are supported in local and online multiplayer. The video briefly goes over each sport and the various Joy-Con controls that seem to offer significant nuance.

For example, in tennis you can do topspins, backspins and lobs, all with different hand movements. Similarly, in volleyball, you can serve, hit, set, spike or block with different commands. There is also a featured attachment that allows you to attach a Joy-Con to your leg during the soccer event, allowing you to volley towards a goal.

Of course, it's hard to say exactly how well all of this works in practice. But if the Nintendo Switch can read movements accurately, there could be some decent fluidity involved. This is also helpful because the video also shows that there are online leagues that allow you to become a Pro and then move up 12 ranks to reach A rank.

However, not everything is serious. There are fun online spin-offs like Survival Bowling, which has 16 players competing until there's only one left.

Once you've completed the online batches, you'll earn points that can be spent on in-game items, allowing you to customize your 'Sporty Mii'. Interestingly, while the game uses its own more detailed avatars, you can also go for the more traditional Mii look if you want to go old school.

Acting as the spiritual successor to the iconic Wii Sports, Nintendo Switch Sports has some big shoes to fill. The Wii's original package title is one of the most recognizable video games in history, so keeping up with new hardware is a daunting task. That said, it looks like a fun successor with a good selection of sports just around the corner. There's news that Nintendo Switch Sports may also feature more sports after launch, so stay tuned for more!
