New Star Wars Movies and TV Shows: Every Ad Explained
10 Star Wars shows are coming to Disney Plus in the next few years, and 9 of them were just revealed or discussed on this week's Disney Investor Day livestream. In addition to these upcoming series, two of which are spin-offs from The Mandalorian, we've discovered two new movies. The most notable of these is Rogue Squadron, which is confirmed to be the next theatrical release of the Star Wars saga in 2023. Below, we'll explain what we've learned about each of them this week, as well as what to expect from upcoming projects from Star Wars in general. Aside from Rogue Squadron, these are all premiering on Disney Plus, and Rogue Squadron will of course also hit the streamer after its theatrical release. Ready for more Star Wars than you ever asked for? Let us begin ...

The Mandalorian season 3

The Mandalorian temporada 3

(Image credit: Disney Plus/Lucasfilm) Little is known about the third season of The Mandalorian; We'll probably know more about next year's events from the upcoming Season 2 finale, but the next chapter in the story will arrive in time for Christmas. 2021, Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy confirmed this week. . Two spinoff TV shows come from executive producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni; you can read more below. All three series will culminate in a ``climax'' event, most likely a miniseries or movie episode.

Ahsoka

Guerra de las Galaxias

(Image credit: Lucasfilm) One of two spinoffs from The Mandalorian, this show will see Rosario Dawson reprise her memorable role as Jedi Ahsoka Tano. Making his debut in the animated series The Clone Wars, Ahsoka has made an exciting move into live-action with the Mandalorian episode 'The Jedi' this season. His appearance in Mando suggested that he was on the lookout for Grand Admiral Thrawn, a villain long acquainted with the Star Wars books and added to Disney's new continuity with the animated series Star Wars Rebels. The series is expected to tackle the epilogue to Rebels, which saw Ahsoka and the character Sabine Wren searching for the character Ezra Bridger.

New Republic Rangers

Guerra de las Galaxias

(Image credit: Lucasfilm) Another The Mandalorian spin-off, this one is more of a mystery: some have speculated (a bit jokingly) that they could be the pilots of X-Wing Trapper Wolf (played by director Dave Filoni) and Carson. Teva (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee), both seen saving Mando from ice spiders in 'Chapter 10: The Passengers' and appearing in other episodes. Hey, we'd see!

Obi Wan Kenobi

(Image credit: Lucasfilm) The long-awaited Obi-Wan spin-off will feature the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, with a new showdown promised between the Jedi Master and the failed Padawan. It takes place 10 years after Revenge of the Sith. We were lucky enough to see behind-the-scenes footage of Obi-Wan Kenobi that wasn't released to the public this week; They didn't reveal much beyond the concept art and McGregor praised the return. by Christensen. But we did see a picture of Kenobi fighting Vader. Expect them to age Obi-Wan in this series: The Jedi Master looked noticeably older in what appeared to be a dewy creature in a piece of concept art. We also saw a lot of images of planets, and it has been confirmed that Tatooine is just the beginning of this story. Deborah Chow, who directed The Mandalorian episodes "The Sin" and "The Reckoning," is the director of this highly anticipated show.

Andor

The long-awaited prequel to 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Andor has been described as a spy thriller by Lucasfilm. It's been filming for three weeks in London, and when the show's crew talk about it in the video above, they don't make any demarcation between the show and a movie in terms of its embodiment, which is exciting. This show takes place five years before Rogue One, and Bourne writer (and Rogue One cover supervisor) Tony Gilroy is the show's creator. Stellan Skarsgard, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw and Kyle Soller are part of the series' regular cast, as is Genevieve O'Reilly, who reprises her role from Rogue One and Revenge of the Sith rebel leader Mon Mothma. According to the video above, it is 12 episodes long, with over 200 named cast members; it could be a step closer to what even The Mandalorian has achieved in terms of scale.

Star Wars: Visions

Guerra de las Galaxias

(Image credit: Lucasfilm) This series of short films on Disney Plus will consist of anime-style episodes, directed by well-known Japanese creators. This should lead to a lot of new angles on the Star Wars universe, similar, we suppose, to The Animatrix or Halo Legends.

The acolyte

Acólito de Star Wars

(Image credit: r/StarWarsLeaks) Set at the end of the Star Wars era, recently released by High Republic, The Acolyte comes from Netflix Russian doll co-creator Leslye Headland. Not much was said about this Kathleen Kennedy show in the keynote, except that it is a "mystery thriller" set in a "galaxy of dark secrets and emerging dark side powers." Previous reports have suggested that this was a female-focused show with martial arts elements as well. We can't wait to learn more.

The bad lot

A spin-off of The Clone Wars, starring a popular group of specialized clone troopers, The Bad Batch was announced earlier this year, but debuted with a trailer on December 10. and features Fennec Shand from the Mandalorian, who appears twice in this trailer. Lucasfilm revealed in July that the show will launch in 2021.

Lando

Lando

(Image credit: Lucasfilm) A 'series of events' from writer Justin Simien (Dear Whites), this show will focus on Lando Calrissian, though actor Donald Glover has not been confirmed to reprise his solo role as Bespin Sweet talker and tough game director, Disney's promotional video certainly used a lot of imagery of the actor. "Event series" means a mini-series, so expect only one season of this show. Could Alden Ehrenreich's Han Solo reappear as well? This one is in its early stages, so you may have to wait a bit. Now, in the movies...

Thieves squad

Película de Rogue Squadron

(Image credit: Lucasfilm) Directed by Wonder Woman's Patty Jenkins, the next theatrical release in the Star Wars film canon after The Rise of Skywalker will be Rogue Squadron, arriving in 2023. Rogue Squadron, of course, is the name of Luke Skywalker's fighter pilots. who fought in the Battle of Hoth and were trained after the Battle of Yavin. This film will be about a new generation of fighter pilots who "earn their wings," according to Kennedy, risking their lives in a "future age" of the galaxy. Rogue Squadron also appeared in author Michael A Stackpole's X-Wing book series about the Star Wars Expanded Universe before Disney bought Lucasfilm. It was also the name of a series of video games released on the N64, PC, and GameCube. So this movie will focus on pilots from the Star Wars universe, which means a lot of space battles, but everything else is pretty much unknown at this point.

A history of droids

Droides

(Image credit: Disney / Lucasarts) Coming to Disney Plus, this Industrial Light and Magic / Lucasfilm Animation co-production will feature R2-D2 and C-3PO alongside a new hero. His mission? It's a secret that only droids know. Expect something light and fun. Lucasfilm has confirmed that it is a movie rather than a Twitter show.

Taika Waititi's Star Wars movie

Having directed one of the best episodes of The Mandalorian (season 1 finale, where Mando defeats Moff Gideon's TIE Fighter), Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi is also working on a Star Wars movie. This one was announced on May 4th Star Wars Day and surprisingly comes after Rogue Squadron. Kennedy described it as "fresh, unexpected and unique". Waititi is currently writing the film.
