New AMD Radeon Graphics Cards Launched With Adjusted Clocks And Higher Prices

AMD is adding three new graphics cards to its Radeon RX 6000 series: 6650 XT, 6750 XT, and 6950 XT.

These new models are direct updates to previous models, as evidenced by the "50" in their name. The 6650 XT is an update to the 6600 XT, the 6750 XT perfects the 6700 XT, etc. Although these are upgrades, the performance of the new cards isn't that different, except for new features and a higher price.

All three cards are based on the AMD RDNA 2 architecture, but all have been modified to perform better than previous cards and share the same features.

The first is FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0, which improves frame rate and image quality in supported games. Next up is AMD Software Adrenalin Edition, which can boost the performance of some DirectX 11 games by 10%.

AMD Smart Access Memory (SAM) technology is a feature that can increase the performance of a platform when paired with a Ryzen processor and you have an AMD 500 motherboard. If the 6950 XT is paired with a Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor, this performance it can reach 14% according to AMD.

And then there's AMD Infinity Cache, which reduces latency and power consumption.

Analysis: a fairly minor update

The new AMD Radeon RX 6X50 XT cards announced today are modest upgrades from their base 6000-series counterparts and mostly stick with changes to the card game and increased clock speeds.

The 6650 XT now has a gaming clock and boost clock of 2410 MHz and 2635 MHz, respectively.

The 6750 XT has a gaming clock of 2496 MHz and a boost of up to 2600 MHz, while the 6950 XT has a gaming clock of 2100 MHz, with a boost of up to 2310 MHz. That makes it the slowest of the bunch , but it has a significantly higher TGP and both the 6950 XT and 6750 have the same memory speed of 18 Gbps, with the 6650 XT slightly lower at 17,5 Gbps.

These are by no means bad numbers; it's just not a huge increase. For example, the 6600XT above has a gaming frequency of 2359Mhz and a boost clock of 2589Mhz, which is not too far off from the 6650 XT.

But if you want that little boost, the 6950 XT and 6750 XT are currently for sale on AMD's website. However, AMD does not sell the 6650 XT, but all cards are available through AIB partners such as Gigabyte and Asus through various retailers. The RX 6950 XT starts at €1,099, the RX 6750 XT at €549 and the RX 6650 XT at €399, although third-party cards can cost you more depending on the extra features they offer.
