Any Netflix user will be familiar with the short, sweet 'ta-dum' sound that triggers their arrival on the Netflix platform. As an opening sound it's not bad, providing familiarity with the building over time, without a composition stretched enough to scratch your ears the more you listen to it. If you're watching a Netflix movie at the theater or at a festival screening, you may have heard something very different. As it turns out, Netflix commissioned acclaimed composer Hans Zimmer (Inception, Gladiator, No Time To Die) to create a fully cinematic alternative to this humble sound, for viewers to enjoy on a larger scale. Netflix's super-brief start/connection sound is great when you're just trying to dive into The Witcher as quickly as possible, but the start of any movie in theaters is set to build anticipation - part of why many love preview trailers. to the movie The expanded version is clearly aimed at strengthening Netflix's cinematic credentials on the film festival circuit, a place where it hasn't always been welcomed with open arms. Hans Zimmer is a household name, he's no small feat as a composer, and the result is certainly more cinematic. However, unless Netflix continues to hand out awards like The Irishman and Roma, along with popcorn flicks like Extraction, not every startup remix in the world will keep it in the hearts of moviegoers.
