MSI Announced Mini-ITX Compatible RTX 3000 Series GPU
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 series of graphics cards currently contain some of the most powerful GPUs on the market, sharing their crown with AMD's "Big Navi" line. To accommodate this power, the size of the video card has to accommodate ventilation and cooling, which has resulted in quite large hardware so far. Not ideal for fans of super compact PCs, but MSI has thankfully announced the GeForce RTX 3060Ti Aero ITX, a Mini-ITX compatible graphics card for small gaming rigs. It is the first GPU with an amplifier to be announced for miniature computer builds, and is clocked at 1665 MHz and equipped with 8 GB of GDDR6 RAM.

A mighty little package

For anyone unfamiliar with motherboard size, there are four options you'll typically find online: ATX, E-ATX, MicroATX, and Mini-ITX. ATX stands for "Advanced Technology eXtended" and will be the most common, having been introduced in 1995 by Intel. This has since become the industry standard and is also known as the "full size board". E-ATX is less common and generally not recommended due to case compatibility, but it is a larger motherboard that can accommodate two processors and up to four GPUs. MicroATX (or mATX) was introduced in 1997, removing some non-essential features and reducing available slots to create a smaller board for compact builds. For some, however, it was not small enough. The Mini-ITX (Mini Information Technology eXtended) is the smallest motherboard available and came on the scene in 2001, initially designed for home theater setups or fanless applications. The challenge of building small gaming computers with Mini-ITX motherboards is appealing to some gamers and PC enthusiasts alike, as many of these smaller rigs can still perform just as well as the larger, full-size versions. . Small but powerful gaming PCs are a great choice for anyone who doesn't have enough space for a full-size computer, or even for people who frequently visit gaming events or LANs. The new MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Aero ITX measures just 172 x 125 x 43mm, making it 40% smaller and 50% lighter than a full-size graphics card. We couldn't find any benchmarks, but the GPU can supposedly deliver the same performance you'd expect from a full-size RTX 3060 Ti. The Aero ITX will feature a single HDMI port that can support 4K 120Hz display speeds, as well as three DisplayPort 1.4a connectors. No confirmed pricing has been announced for this new MSI GPU, but with the Nvidia Ampere lineup being so scarce and demand so high, we expect there to be enough inventory to circulate at a fair price.
