Moto G22 is a new budget phone with 50MP camera and big battery

Motorola is one of those companies that always seems to be announcing new phones, and the latest is the Moto G22, a super budget phone with a 50 MP main camera.

The price associated with this camera is the highlight here. It's expected to cost just $139.99 (about £185 / AU$255) when it lands in the UK in mid-March, with no word on availability in the US or Australia.

For that, you get a phone with a quad-lens camera, including a 50MP f/1.8 main sensor, an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide, a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor, and a 2MP f/2.4 macro snapper. /2. As usual for budget phones, they're probably not all very useful, with the 50MP sensors sounding like padding, but having a XNUMXMP at this price point is remarkable.

The Moto G22 also has a large 5000mAh battery, a size that's not uncommon for affordable phones but still nice to look at. This supports 15W charging and the phone also has a 16MP front-facing camera, a 720-inch 1600 x 6,5 LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate, 64GB or 128GB of storage, and a port. for 3,5mm headphones.

It's powered by a lower-end MediaTek Helio G37 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM and runs Android 12.

Rounding out the specs is a microSD card slot, fingerprint scanner, and water-repellent build, with the Moto G22 available in Cosmic Black, Iceberg Blue, or Pearl White, though only the first two shades are mentioned for the Kingdom. United. There is also no 5G, of course.

Analysis: sitting under the Moto G31

In terms of position in Motorola's extensive lineup of smartphones, it appears that the Moto G22 sits just below the Moto G31.

This phone costs a bit more, but it comes with a sharper 1080 x 2400 display and a faster Helio G85 chipset. It also has an AMOLED screen instead of LCD. The refresh rate is lower, however, and while this phone also has a 50MP snapper, it only has three lenses on the rear, minus the depth sensor found on the Moto G22.

In most other cases, the two phones look similar, so it might not be as clear cut as saying that the Moto G31 is the better phone. Rather, it may depend on what you want most from your phone.
