With cyber threats evolving daily, talented workers extremely hard to find, and security tools falling short of the arsenal of malicious actors, many organizations today feel unsure of their ability to respond to threats, incidents, or to comply with the rules. with rules and laws. These are the findings of a new research paper from Rackspace Technology, which, after interviewing 1.420 IT decision makers across multiple industries, found that two in five (39%) lack the confidence to address these issues. Additionally, more than half (53%) do not have the tools to correctly identify security incidents in multi-cloud environments, which they expect to change in the next three years.
Third parties to the rescue
Then there is the question of talent. Nearly half (44%) have difficulty finding and retaining talented cybersecurity workers. Experts in cloud security and data privacy are the most in demand these days. To try to fix the problem, most UK companies have in-house staff, with the help of third parties. However, the majority (56%) use up to five third-party cybersecurity providers, including security value-added resellers, managed security service providers, and managed detection and response providers. Embedded risk, application security and data security are the top three areas most likely to be outsourced, according to the report. For Andy Brierley, CEO of Rackspace Technology in the UK, cybersecurity is extremely difficult to manage, mainly due to the rapid pace at which digital transformation is taking place across all key industries. “Given the current lack of digital skills and ongoing recruitment challenges, it is important that companies seek more support from external partners to help them identify and address their weaknesses,” he said. “Few companies have all the basics covered – people, processes and technology in place – when it comes to a mature cybersecurity model.
