The 2020 Mobile Industry Awards (MIA 2020) announced a collaboration with the Mind mental health charity. Recognizing the best talent in the UK, MIA 2020 spans from the conference room to the grassroots, with entrants representing the best and brightest in the UK and European mobile industry. The two organizations will work together to promote mental health in the UK, but will also recognize excellence in the industry with the top People & Culture category. The awards opened on January 13, 2020, with entrants invited to show how they have created an engaging, inclusive and diverse culture that has brought staff together, improved their experience and business performance as a result. The application criteria will also reward applicants for their staffing and performance impact. Research by Mind found that less than half of staff believe managers would spot their mental health issues, despite the fact that two in three managers feel confident promoting wellbeing. Data from Mind's Workplace Well-Being Index 2018-19, which searched nearly 44,000 employees, showed that:
- Almost half of employees (45%) believe that their manager would be able to detect if they had mental health problems,
- Around two in five (41 per cent) of managers surveyed said they thought their employer had helped their skills in supporting an employee with poor mental health, while two in three (66 per hundred) were confident in promoting welfare.
- More than one in two employees (56%) felt that their organization was supportive of their mental health, and about one in two (51%) believed that their organization's culture allowed them to speak openly about poor mental health.
- The data found that mental health problems are common among staff: more than seven in ten (71%) have experienced mental health problems in their lifetime, while more than one in two (53%) are affected due to poor mental health in their current workplace.
