Some Windows 11 testers may soon find many more bugs as Microsoft begins testing the new version of the operating system for 2022 on the channel that receives early previews. We're talking about the Dev Channel, and while the builds on that channel are currently for the retail version of Windows 11 due out later in 2021 (maybe in October), they'll soon move to previews for the next update. By 2022 (known as 22H2: Microsoft only makes one big update per year with Windows 11, if you remember). Work on this 22H2 feature update will obviously be in its early stages, so testers may run into a ton of issues, which means if you don't fancy the possibility of bugs galore, you should update to the beta channel at instead (which will continue to test the much more stable builds this year for the 21H2 release). As Windows Latest points out, Microsoft recently sent an email to testers stating that: "If you want to see more reliable builds of Windows 11 Insider Previews related to the next build, move your device to the beta channel through the Windows Insider Program settings. .
Analysis: should you stay or go?
If you're worried about creating a lot more bugs (and remember there are already bugs with existing previews), then obviously you'll need to change channels as soon as possible. This is certainly the case for those who don't want their PC to be significantly disrupted (although you really shouldn't be running a pre-release version of an OS on a machine used for any kind of serious application). The reason to stay on the Dev Channel, of course, is the enticing prospect of seeing and playing with the new features of Windows 11 next year, although they will be difficult, as noted. That being said, in the initial builds of Windows 11 version 22H2, there won't be any major introductions, as these early builds just lay the foundation for what's to come in terms of new features. So don't expect anything too exciting in the immediate future, even if it stays in the dev channel, but new features (and no doubt some gremlins) will be introduced over time.
