Microsoft has finally fixed this dreaded Outlook email bug

A frustrating bug in the Microsoft Outlook desktop client has finally been fixed, with a set of fixes due to be widely available at the end of April. First discovered in February, the bug is limited to the Outlook for PC email client and prevents users from forwarding or replying to certain emails. Several users have reported it on the official Microsoft community website as well as on social media platforms like Reddit and Twitter. The Outlook for Microsoft 365 team is now reporting that the developers have fixed the issue in build 13913.10000 of Outlook for PC.

It doesn't bother me

The developers also shared details about the bug, which displays a popup to warn users that they cannot send messages. The lack of details in the error message confused many users, leaving them frustrated as they desperately searched for answers to help resolve the issue. In addition to sharing information about the fix, the developers also shed light on the conditions that led to the error. According to Microsoft, the problem appeared when replying to emails with long links in the body, especially when the 2084 character in the link was an escape character. The developers believed that the error could also appear if the URLs were processed with the SafeLinks service, which scans incoming emails for known malicious hyperlinks. As users wait for the fix to move from the development channel to the stable release channel, the Outlook developers have shared a number of workarounds to get around the issue. The safest way is to reply to affected messages using the Outlook web app. If you absolutely must use the desktop client, you can also work around the problem by changing the email format from HTML to Rich Text.
