European gamers will be able to get a physical copy of Microsoft's new Flight Simulator that will take the form of a large 10-disc box. Flight Simulator is set to launch on PC on August 18, and while most will buy the game digitally, Microsoft has partnered with publisher Aerosoft for a physical release, and it's one of the biggest of all time. The physical edition will include 10 double-sided DVDs, which are packaged in a "specular" accordion-style box, according to Aerosoft. The retro-styled package will include a hefty 90GB of data (still less than the 150GB required by Microsoft), the bulk of which is graphic assets for airplanes and detailed landscapes. Also, those who purchase the physical copy will still need an update from Microsoft before the game launches. In a forum post, Aerosoft's Mathijs Kok said that the physical version will also include the code for the simulator itself, as well as an equally nostalgic physical booklet. Those who purchase the commercial version will have equal access to the rest of the game's content, which is pulled from more than two petabytes of Bing data, including satellite imagery and photogrammetry data. Kok said that the physical copy "allows people with a slower internet connection to install the SIM card without downloading 'content'". "So the simulator is 100% the same," he added. "The boxed retail version just gives you a nice box, a printed manual, and about 90 GB that you don't have to download."
