MediaTek Dimensity 720: Specifications, Features, 5G Capabilities, and More
MediaTek is known for its high-performance yet affordable chipsets that offer OEMs an option to control device costs while providing best-in-class functionality. Considering the spread of 5G and the fact that Qualcomm also offers the Snapdragon 690, a 5G-compatible chipset for mid-range smartphones, MediaTek has introduced the SoC Dimensity 720 which aims to make 5G smartphones even more affordable. .

Dimensity 720 Features and Specifications

This is the first Dimensity 700 series chipset built using a 7nm manufacturing process and with UltraSave technology that uses network and content-aware intelligence to increase power efficiency and extend battery life. MediaTek Dimensity 720 supports 90Hz refresh rate displays with FHD+ resolution, which has become the primary requirement of the gaming-focused user base. It also comes with enhanced video streaming capabilities thanks to MiraVision HDR10+ with dynamic range remapping support.

(Image credit: MediaTek) In terms of optics, the Dimensity 720 will support up to a 64-megapixel sensor or a 20-megapixel dual-camera setup paired with a 16-megapixel sensor and offer 4K video recording. The integrated APU or AI processing unit will offer a range of AI enhancements for images and videos. Dual microphone suppression for clear audio reception by AI voice assistants and a built-in voice wake-up for optimized power consumption for always-on digital assistants will also be present. Talking about the basic chipset specs, the Dimensity 720 is an octa-core SoC with a few Cortex-A76 cores running at 2GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores paired with the ARM Mali-G57 MC3 graphics unit. It will also support up to 12GB of RAM and UFS 2.2 storage that offers fast read and write speeds. Other basic features include WiFi 5, dual-carrier aggregation, voice over new radio (VoNR), and 5G and 4G dual-SIM and dual-SIM dual-standby. This new chipset was designed for markets such as Asia, North America, and Europe to deliver 5G networks below 6 GHz. It supports stand-alone (SA) and non-stand-alone (NSA) sub-6 GHz networks.
