Mass Effect Trilogy remaster suddenly seems more likely

Rumors of a remake or remaster of the Mass Effect trilogy have been around for a while now, and a big clue to their veracity has been uncovered today. A new Mass Effect trilogy art book is up for pre-order, the kind of merchandise that suggests a new multimedia push for the franchise. The book, Art of the Mass Effect Trilogy: Expanded Edition, is expected to be released on February 23, 2021 and has been listed on Amazon in the United States. It comes with the following introductory text: "Built in with hundreds of never-before-seen works of art, this new edition delves deeper than ever into the sci-fi saga that changed video games forever. Discover the evolution of aliens, planets, ships stars and technology that define this iconic sci-fi universe, as the developers who brought BioWare's masterpiece to life take it from early design sketches to meticulous final renderings. Brimming with concept art and commentary, this Expanded Edition is the ultimate! Best companion to one of the best series in video game history!" The art book comes from publisher Penguin Random House, which also lists the tome for pre-order on its website.

Mass Effect remastered and repurchased?

In May, Venture Beat claimed that one of the titles in the works at EA Publisher was a complete remaster of the original Mass Effect trilogy. Developer BioWare is also looking for a CTO who will be "the best engineering manager on the next major title in one of BioWare's most prestigious franchises." BioWare said it's not done with Mass Effect yet, so everything points to some sort of move for the dormant franchise, with a remaster a likely starting point. With its branching intrigue, sci-fi soap opera atmosphere, and excellent characters, the Mass Effect trilogy (despite a shaky ending) endures as one of the biggest franchises in all of gaming. A return to the series in the PS4/Xbox One era with Mass Effect Andromeda turned out to be disappointing, as the game released in what seemed like an unfinished form. The franchise deserves better, and a remake or remaster of the classic Xbox 360 and PS3 games would do well to reignite interest.
