Macs have too much malware, says Apple's own executive
If you're using a Mac, you might want to make sure you're using an antivirus, as even Apple isn't comfortable with the amount of malware in macOS Big Sur. This happened during the ongoing legal battle between Epic Games and Apple, where Apple's vice president of software engineering Craig Federighi is testifying. In a statement from Federighi, he said: "Today we have a level of malware on Mac that we don't find acceptable and that is much worse than iOS." This issue was raised in court after the judge asked why macOS can have multiple app stores and iOS can't. And Federighi's main point is that the more open software approach taken by macOS has left Macs more prone to malware, to the point where Apple is uncomfortable. There are currently 130 types of malware on Macs, as previously demonstrated by Craig Federighi and first reported by 9to5Mac. But the Apple exec made sure to make it clear that he still believes that Macs are always secure. Either way, the macOS malware problem isn't nearly as big as the one Windows 10 faces, but it's probably a good idea to make sure you're running a Mac antivirus.
