Leica sunglasses bring camera lens-inspired technology to your face
Can't afford a camera with Leica's signature red dot, but want to show your appreciation for the German premium camera brand? Good news, the company just collaborated with Mykita to produce tasty, Leica-inspired sunglasses. While some of Leica's previous fashion collaborations have been a bit strained for the camera maker, this one makes the most sense: Leica is already making lenses for its eyewear line, and Mykita is another brand. German luxury. Sunglasses also have lenses that can take advantage of some of the technology used in camera glass. Granted, that doesn't extend to optical zoom, but the new collection, which will start with two designs, will include an AquaDura Vision Pro coating, which Leica adapted from its binoculars and photography services. This anti-reflective coating apparently adds resistance to dust and grease, while also reducing glare. Leica and Mykita also claim that the manufacturing process is a step ahead of your usual pair of supermarket blinds. They claim to have "pioneered optical-quality sunglasses" by grinding and polishing them with a cast lens cap, a process also used to create camera lenses. Of course, the main reason to buy Leica-inspired sunglasses is for their design, and the Mykita doesn't disappoint here.

Both sunglasses have geometric lenses inspired by the characteristic shape of the lens hood seen on cameras like the Leica M10 Monochrom. And while there's no Leica dot on the sunglasses, there are understated red accents on the frame, which is otherwise a minimalist mix of silver, black and grey. A final touch for true Leica addicts is that the model's lettering on the arms is in recognizable Leica font, the same you'll find on their cameras and lens aperture rings. Unfortunately, one thing we don't know yet is the prices for the new Mykita and Leica collections. However, they will be available for purchase from June 2020 and you can sign up for the Mykita newsletter for pricing information as soon as they are available. Via Petapixel
