Leaked RTX 4070 price is a breath of fresh air, I just hope Nvidia delivers

The price of the upcoming Nvidia RTX 4070 has been leaked, with an apparent MSRP of €599 at launch according to VideoCardz. While VideoCardz's sources did not specify pricing details outside of the US, we can assume from the above prices for the RTX 4000 GPU that it will cost around $599 / AU$999.

The leaks are said to come from reports sent out to the press and business partners by Nvidia, which credibly aligns with the alleged April 13 release date, so while it's a leak and should be taken with a grain of salt of salt, the €599 price is most likely accurate (although third-party cards from other manufacturers will probably cost a bit more).

That price puts it on par with the launch price of the previous-gen RTX 3070 Ti, which shows a generational price hike, but that doesn't worry me too much: the 3070 Ti was a decent GPU that just didn't justify its asking price at the time, while the RTX 4070's rumored specs indicate it should vastly outperform the last-gen card.

Opinion: This price seems more affordable, and that's a very good thing

Yeah I know, €599 for a graphics card is still expensive. The RTX 4070 is unlikely to make it to our list of the best cheap graphics cards; we'll probably wait for the RTX 4060 or 4050 for that.

But it heralds the return of true mid-range cards for the next generation of GPUs, and it looks like Nvidia will once again take the lead, with AMD's cheapest next-gen GPU, the Radeon RX 7900 XT at $899.

I have criticized Nvidia and AMD in the past for the unaffordable prices of the current generation of graphics cards; no one should pay more than a thousand dollars for an RTX 4090, if you ask me. But $599 for a 4K-capable gaming GPU with DLSS 3 and much more sensitive power requirements than flagship cards? Speak rudely to me, Nvidia.

Considering that the upcoming GPU's big brother, the RTX 4070 Ti, is already available at $799 / £799 / AU$1,469, this recently leaked asking price seems reasonable. This card is currently at the top of our best graphics card rankings thanks to its solid price/performance ratio, and I really hope the 4070 can offer comparable value at a lower price; especially since they have the same AD-104 base GPU, following the "launch" of the RTX 4080 12GB last year.

Of course, the proof will be in the pudding: the RTX 4070 will absolutely have to deliver the expected performance to prove its worth, but I feel bullish about that - something I actually haven't felt about graphics cards in algun time. Is a buena sensation.
