Larry Ellison wants to build "an Internet in the cloud"

The future of the cloud computing market is expected to be closer and more interconnected, resulting in a more beneficial multi-cloud approach for businesses around the world, the Oracle founder said.

Speaking at Oracle Cloud World 2022 in a keynote address focused on "next-generation cloud technology," Larry Ellison laid out his vision for the cloud market to come, calling for an end to "walled gardens" to offer companies more freedom of choice and experience. .

"There should be a cloud internet," he said, "clouds should be interconnected, and you should be able to mix and match multiple clouds... the garden walls are 'collapsed'."

Ellison pointed out how many enterprises and service providers currently need to implement new multi-cloud infrastructure services. However, he believes that a better idea is to connect all the major cloud services to offer choice to customers, creating this "cloud internet" or multi-cloud.

Oracle along with Microsoft helped drive this, Ellison noted, helping to eliminate data in-and-out streams to help improve adoption, he says, meaning not only is access to your data fast and free, but also much simpler.

The company announced that its Oracle MySQL HeatWave database tools are now available for Microsoft Azure, again looking to give its users the options they need to get the most out of their data.

"The idea, once again, is to give customers choice," Ellison concluded. "That's the bottom line (and) I think eventually all clouds will be interconnected and customers will have choice."
